LEADER TIDBITS Be sure to read the
newsletter, emphasize reading
the newsletter to your members
& go through upcoming events
with your club members at your
monthly meeting.
Trainings & All that Fun Stuff Yearly Training There will be an updated Risk Management Training available after September 1. Face to face or online options are available. New leaders that did not attend the 2010 Risk Management training must attend. Leaders that did attend the 2010 training have the option to attend, however, it is strongly urged they do. All leaders will be receiving a copy of updated materials. The state required training for all leaders will not be available until January 1. Stay tuned for a date once we have received the materials.
New Leader Trainings Anyone coming on as a new leader will be required to attend a training held by the state. If anyone out there is thinking of becoming a leader in the near future, now is the time. There are a handful of the state trainings close to us this fall. They are as follows: October 6 - Knoxville November 10 - Toledo October 13 - Mt. Pleasant November 17 - Osceola
If anyone is interested, this would be a great time to sign up!!
Possible leaders for an Outdoor Club and Fishing Club. I am looking at the
possibility of 2 separate clubs, but would also consider combining. Knowledge
would be of any outdoor activity such as hiking, canoeing, animal tracking,
forestry and other outdoor activities. If Interested or know someone that
would be, please call or email Kaye at 641-472-4166 or [email protected]!!
4-H PLEDGE I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty,
my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club,
my community, my country, and my world.
Questions & Answers
Record Books
Awards
Community Service
I have had several questions regarding record books.
Proceed with record books as you have in the past.
Nothing is changing for the 2011-2012 year.
However, I can tell you, there will be some changes coming for the 2012-2013
4-H year such as much simpler forms!
Hopefully, they will be unveiled at Awards Night!!
The awards applications will remain the same as last year.
In the packet this newsletter has been sent in, there is a listing of awards forms
and the actual forms. Please keep in mind things are remaining the same for the
2012 Awards Night. The 2013 Awards night will be different!!
Awards night will still be a potluck, however, there may be a some different
awards than last year!!!
If anyone high school age is interested in some community service, SIEDA Head
Start is looking for someone to help with child care at some different events.
They are also looking for someone interested in designing activities for the
classroom, interested in helping cut and get materials ready, or if there was a
day Head Start has school and the student does not they would be more than
welcome to come into the classroom. This would be a great opportunity for some-
one looking to go into Education as well as a Child Development Project! Let
Kaye know at the office if you are interested in doing this project.

Growing Pains! After reviewing the numbers, we had some definite growing pains this
year!! We had a 13% increase in our static exhibits in the Activity
Building. That is wonderful! However, with growth is always some
pain. The Youth Committee & I have already come up with some
changes that will help streamline the Activity Building.
We also had a very successful communications and Clothing Event/
Style Show presentation by moving it out to the Show Arena. I would
love to see more participation in this area next year. There has been
discussion on where to move the Clothing Event judging instead of
having it on the same day as Static Exhibit Judging.
It will be announced in plenty of time.
2013
Greater Jefferson County Fair
June 26-July 1, 2013
Good Showing at the State Fair We had a great showing at the Iowa State Fair.
In the static exhibits, we didn’t have 1 white ribbon and no disqualifications.
All of our selections were exhibited and all of them got blues and reds.
In communications, we got all blues!
In the animal side, we had entries in the beef, horse, swine and dog.
All of our entrants got blues and reds!!!
Way to go Jefferson County! Everyone did a Great Job!!
OUR VISION A WORLD IN WHICH YOUTH & ADULTS LEARN, GROW,
& WORK TOGETHER AS CATALYSTS FOR POSITIVE CHANGE
I am going to feature some different areas each month. I will show some pictures of some
projects I have seen in the past with the hopes this will spark a thought of a project you may have
never thought of. Sometimes the simplest things make the best projects.
The first area I am going to feature is Ag & Natural Resources. This area was one of the lowest
numbers in the Activity Building during Exhibit judging this year. There are several classes
within ANR: Animal Science, Vet Science, Crop Production, Environment & Sustainability,
Horticulture, Outdoor Adventures, Safety & Education in Shooting Sports and the good old stand
by of OTHER!
Below are some pictures from Animal Science & Vet Science. I also saw a project where the a
youth’s horse was injured so they turned it into a project. The treatment & healing process of a
horse’s wound was documented & displayed on a poster.
If anyone would like to have
copies of these pictures or see
them in a larger view, please be
sure to email me.
Next month, I will feature some of
the other areas of the Agriculture
& Natural Resources area.
Be sure to go to the hot sheets at
www.extension.iastate.edu/4h
There are always things you
could start for the coming year.
