¿Qué milagrosa es la Presencia Real? ¿Qué maravilloso es que el Precioso Cuerpo pueda ser llevado a nuestros cuerpos, que la Preciosa Sangre pueda fluir en nuestras venas? ¿Podemos ver más allá del pan y del vino y reconocer que lo que está tocando nuestros labios es ese mismo Jesús que colgó en la Cruz, el mismo Jesús cuyo cuerpo está ahora glorificado y en el cielo, pero aquí en la Tierra para nosotros también, para participar de Diariamente, y para adorar?

¡Nuestro amoroso y maravilloso Señor lo ha hecho tan fácil para nosotros! El pan más simple, sólo harina y agua. Una bebida muy humilde, sólo uvas y tiempo. ¿Creería más gente si los elementos que se confeccionaran en Su Cuerpo y Sangre fueran más elevados, quizás más raros o más difíciles de hacer? ¿Recuerdas a Naamán, el Leproso, que se burló cuando Eliseo le dijo que se lavara en el río y se curara? No creía que un milagro pudiera pasar tan fácilmente. ¿Puede realmente ser tan simple como un sacerdote que repite las palabras de Jesús y Él viene del cielo? p. 6

How miraculous is the Real Presence? How wonderful is it that the Precious Body can be taken into our bodies, that the Precious Blood can flow in our veins? Can we see beyond the bread and wine and recognize that what is touching our lips is that same Jesus that hung on the Cross, the same Jesus whose body is now glorified and in heaven, but here on Earth for us as well, to partake of daily, and to adore?

Our loving and wonderful Lord has made it so easy for us! The most simple bread, just flour and water. A most humble drink, just grapes and time. Would more people believe if the elements to be confected into His Body and Blood were loftier, perhaps more rare, or harder to make? Remember Naaman the Leper, who scoffed when Elisha told him to wash in the river and be cured? He did not think a miracle could happen that easily. Can it really be so simple as a priest repeating the words of Jesus and He comes down from heaven? p.6

Yes! That is exactly what happens at the Consecration. The Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity becomes really and truly present in what we see as bread and wine on the altar. It is His Body and Blood, but in the easiest and most accessible forms. This is beautiful and exciting and mysterious and the best thing that happens each day!

It is heartbreaking that Protestant Christians, and even some Catholics, do not believe in transubstantiation, in the Real Presence. But to not believe is to deny the words of Jesus Himself. At the Last Supper, Jesus did not say, “Take and eat, this represents my body”. He said “This is my body” and the Apostles knew he meant it. They had already heard the words of today’s Gospel, along with the crowd, right from Jesus: “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood, you do not have life within you”. They had no idea how this was going to be realized, but they certainly understood it later when they saw and heard how Jesus gave the blessing, and received the Body and Blood, under the appearance of bread and wine, for the very first time.

Not long ago, we had a request for a traditional Latin Requiem Mass, and enlisted the help of a priest from St. John Cantius. We brought out the kneelers for that Mass, and everyone received Holy Communion on the tongue, while kneeling. An altar boy held a paten under each communicant’s chin, to protect the Blessed Sacrament, so not even a crumb would fall to the floor. This is how we all received Our Lord before Vatican II, and this manner of reception enhanced the sense of the sacred. You knew you were engaging in a holy act, something so very wonderful that it brought you to your knees.

So on this day when we honor the Body and Blood of Christ in a special way, let us remind ourselves that this day could be, and should be, every day; every time that we receive Our Lord in his great gift of the sacrament of Holy Communion. Father Paul

A Word about THE WORD continued Una Palabra sobre LA PALABRA continua ¡Sí! Eso es exactamente lo que sucede en la

Consagración. La Segunda Persona de la Santísima Trinidad se hace verdaderamente presente en lo que vemos como pan y vino en el altar. Es Su Cuerpo y Sangre, pero en las formas más fáciles y accesibles. ¡Esto es hermoso y emocionante y misterioso y lo mejor que sucede cada día!

Es desgarrador que los cristianos protestantes, e incluso algunos católicos, no creen en la transubstanciación, en la Presencia Real. Pero no creer es negar las palabras de Jesús mismo. En la Última Cena, Jesús no dijo: "Tomen y coman, esto representa mi cuerpo". Dijo: "Este es mi cuerpo" y los Apóstoles sabían que lo decía en serio. Ya habían oído las palabras del Evangelio de hoy, junto con la multitud, desde Jesús: "Si no coméis la carne del Hijo del hombre y bebéis su sangre, no tenéis vida dentro de vosotros". No tenían ni idea de cómo se iba a realizar, pero ciertamente lo entendieron más tarde cuando vieron y oyeron cómo Jesús dio la bendición, y recibieron el Cuerpo y la Sangre, bajo la apariencia de pan y vino, por primera vez.

No hace mucho tiempo, tuvimos una petición para una misa tradicional del Requiem latino, y reclutamos la ayuda de un sacerdote de San Juan Cantius. Sacamos a los que se arrodillan para esa Misa, y todos recibieron la Sagrada Comunión en la lengua, mientras se arrodillaban. Un monaguillo tenía una patena debajo de la barbilla de cada comendador, para proteger al Santísimo Sacramento, de modo que ni siquiera una miga caería al suelo. Así es como todos recibimos a Nuestro Señor antes del Concilio Vaticano II, y esta forma de recepción realzó el sentido de lo sagrado. Usted sabía que estaba participando en un acto sagrado, algo tan maravilloso que te puso de rodillas.

Así que en este día en que honramos el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo de una manera especial, recordemos que este día podría ser, y debería ser, todos los días; Cada vez que recibimos a Nuestro Señor en su gran don del sacramento de la Sagrada Comunión.
