Clubs and Societies 2014 - 2015 Sevenoaks School prides itself not only on being a centre for academic excellence, but also for its rich and varied educational atmosphere. Our aim is that students should become well-rounded individuals, and the key to this is participation in co-curricular activities. There are a large number of interesting and challenging activities happening at all times around the school – particularly at lunchtimes and after school.

This handbook gives a brief outline of many of these activities. It cannot always be specific about timings, as they are fixed in response to student interest. Locations too can vary as each term puts different demands on the school premises. Further information on many of these activities may be found by talking to your tutors or the pupils and staff involved. If you have ideas for a new club or society you should speak, in the first instance, to: Mr Geoffrey Stanford (Deputy Head Co-curriculum).

Please note that a few of the activities have a small cost involved (for example: for transport/external tutors/national membership); details from the staff member in charge. Please clear this with your parents before committing to the activity.

Improv Society

Do you like – or could you grow to like – making a fool of yourself? Well then Improv is perfect for you! Improv is a type of theatre where there are no lines, and you make it up as you go along. We base the sessions around a large selection of games, each having their own sets of rules. For example, in Sit-Stand-Lie, you’re given a scene to carry out, made up on the spot, but the catch is one of you must always be sitting, one standing, and one lying down. It changes throughout the scene who does which action as the scene develops, and hilarity ensues! Really. Trust us. It’s a lot of fun to either watch or participate in, so even if you don’t want to join in straight away, come along, and we’ll slowly pressure you into acting. (Just kidding!) (Sort of.)

Notes:

Co-Curricular Activities There are many clubs, societies and other activities which take place on a regular basis. There are some which occur more irregularly and sometimes once or twice a term. The school produces priority lists of group practices and rehearsals for major activities which represent the school (this list is updated in the termly calendar). Please check these priority lists before signing up for additional activities if you are part of a squad which has to train on given days. Attendance at these takes priority over all other clubs and societies.

If you are involved with these activities you must organise your other commitments around these timings. You may also need to attend additional rehearsals for drama productions or music concerts during the year so be careful to notify your teachers if they clash with priority activities. Check notice boards and Firefly for details.

Sports The Sports department produces a timetable grid for Sports clubs and other clubs and activities which take place in the sports centre.
