hether you are modeling in a style revue or interacting with others, being well-dressed can be a part of your everyday life. Personable qualities give the finishing touch to your outfit. A pleasant expression and confidence about your appearance put you in the fashion spotlight. Here are clues tohelp you present yourself with ease.

When You StandPlace your feet in a “Y” position toappear graceful and slender. Placea little more of your weight on yourback foot to maintain your balance.

Relax your arms at your sides, withpalms toward your body. You mayalso bend your arms at the elbowsand curl your fingers lightly. Keepyour arms close to your body toavoid looking like an octopus!

When You WalkImagine you are following a line. Place onefoot ahead of the other on either side, staying close to thisimaginary line.

Point your feet straightahead as you walk.Toes that point out orin are for the birds(mostly ducks)!

Step forward briskly, confident of where youare going, yet keepingyour steps a ladylike orgentlemanly size. If thedistance between yoursteps is much morethan the length of your foot, you are strid-ing, not walking. Walk smoothly.

PursesWhen carrying a small purse without a handle, keep it close to your side with your arm slightlybent.

Carry a purse with a handle over your arm. Gripa small handle with ease so it lies flat againstyour side.

Place the shoulder bag strap of a purse over yourshoulder and hold the bag close to your side, withthe strap between your thumb and fingers.

When You TurnA pivot is a turn in which you face theopposite direction. Pivot gracefully withyour weight on the balls of both feet.Do this from the standing “Y” positionby taking a short step forward with yourfront foot.

Keep both feet on floor, then lift yourheels and pivot on the balls of your feetso your toes are pointing in the oppo-site direction. Finish turn by sliding yourfront foot back to the “Y” position. Toreturn to your original position, pivotback.

Another possibility, if you have room, isto take a step before you pivot, and an-other before you pivot again. This letsyou turn in a full circle.

GlovesIf gloves are part of youroutfit, then wear them—don’t carry them! To re-move a glove, looseneach finger slightly soyou may pull the gloveoff gracefully. Hold it inyour other hand with thefingers of the glove inthe your palm.

PostureStay relaxed as you stand straight. Your head should be backin a straight line with your shoulders (only turkey necks bobbleforward). To keep your knees from locking, bend themslightly.

Modeling GarmentsShow the full frontalview of an outfit bykeeping your handsat your side orslightly to the back asyou face an audience. You may bend yourarms and bring yourhands to the front asyou pivot to show theback of your gar-ment.

To accent a pocket, place your fingertipsinto it while keepingyour hand flat.
