Training

CMEB Trains up to 15 prospectors each year. The trainings occurred in the communities.

Collaborate with The Cree School Board and the CEGEP to create a Diplomas in mining adapted to the Cree reality.

The executive informs and trains the trapper to recognize and explore for minerals on regular basis.

Henry is a 60+ year old Cree prospector who has been involved in the discovery of several projects in the area of Chapais and Chibougamou. In his last project funded by CMEB, Henry made a good discovery of copper that has been sold(exploration right) by Henry to a Junior Company.

Establishment of a Cree MiningInvestment Fund

� Eeyou Istchee has a great mineral potential, new discoveries are being made which will stimulate the activities of exploration companies in the territory

� Among the three resources (hydroelectricity, forestry and mining) the mining sector is one that offers the greatest employment opportunities for the Crees

� The return on investment for this type of fund could be very interesting if the fund is managed appropriately

Objectivesof a Cree Mining Investment Fund

� The fund would consist in a sufficient capital base to invest in the equity of promising and profitable mining companies active on Eeyou Istchee;

� Develop the participation of Cree businesses and promote Cree employment in the mining sector;

� Such Fund would allow the Crees to become important actors and partners in the mining sector of Eeyou Istchee.

Conclusion

Politics are way of life in all aboriginalcommunities and this is a big challenge to properly address when considering miningprojects; but if we develop the propercommunication tools and consult at the very beginning. The process will benefit all parties concerned and a mutualunderstanding lead to sustainabledevelopment.
