Our supervising engineers have more than 12 years’experience as chief engineers and six years assuperintendents. We have provided overhaulservices for a fleet of general cargo and containervessels of a German owner in the last year, and havecarried out overhauls and repairs for other clients.

Clever Marine Services Ltd holds its own library ofservice manuals for the above-mentionedmanufacturers, but can source service manuals fornearly all engine types.

We can offer complete solutions, including spare partsupply, logistics and scheduling, as well as justproviding the overhaul/repair team. Our managementand employees are always willing to go the extramile, and our aim is to provide the client with a highlyqualified and fast solution to the problem.

Reconditioning or structural repairs of engine partsare sourced out to qualified subcontractors forwhich we carry the guarantee. We can dispatchonly single supervising engineers or teamsconsisting of supervising engineers andexperienced engine fitters/mechanics. Overhaul and maintenance ofauxiliary and main engines

Our company is approved by GermanischerLloyd, Bureau Veritas, RINA, Det NorskeVeritas, Lloyds Register and American Bureauof Shipping to carry out ultrasonic wallthickness measurements for class survey andrepair purposes.

Our employees are trained as UT supervisors inaccordance with ISO Standard 9712 Level 2 andas UT operators in accordance with Level 1standards. Our employees are also experiencedmarine engineers and can use their skills toprepare exact repair specifications, as well as theUT reports required for class renewal or survey.

Our teams are completely independent and arenot attached to a particular shipyard. We canjoin the vessel well in advance and can takemost of the measurements required by classbefore your vessel arrives in the dry dock if thescope of survey is known. This gives you theadvantage of being able to quote for exact steelexchange requirements.

We can offer superintendence and projectmanagement services for dry dockings, repairs,conversions and new builds.

Three of our employees are certifiedsuperintendents who have passed thesuperintendence course offered by the Isle of ManIBS, which is approved by IMAREST, the NauticalInstitute, the Isle of Man Shipping Register and DNV.

We are experienced and have expertise incontainer ships, bulk carriers, tankers and generalcargo vessels, but we are proud to take on anychallenge, such as routine dry dockings,emergency dry dockings, lay-by and dry repairs,conversion projects, preparing and creatingshipyard specifications, etc.

Our superintendents are experienced marine engineersor masters who have carried out several projects in thepast. Please see the list of examples below:

• Exchange of a main engine from a StorkWerkspoor to a Wartsila W38V;

• Conversion of a container ship from 1984 to12000 TDW Bulker with Appendix A, B and C;

Superintendence &Project Management

All our superintendents have at least eightyears’ experience in ship management andwere in charge of a fleet of container ships,mini bulkers and general cargo vessels for amedium-sized ship management company.

During that time, we gained vast experience in pre-purchase surveys and condition surveys. We havecarried out over 35 pre-purchase surveys for ourclients and at least 100 condition surveys.

We are also able to carry out such surveys inconjunction with possible yard and repairspecifications and estimates. Clients use ourservices to survey a vessel before purchasing it,with cost implication in mind if any upgrades,improvements or repairs are planned. We arealso used to surveying vessels close to, or more

than, 20 years of age and preparing aneconomically-driven estimate of necessaryupgrades and repairs.

We are also preparing our condition surveys,including a list of suggested priorities of therequired improvements. This can be used asguidance for the crew and as a control tool by thevessel’s superintendent or manager. Pre-purchase and condition surveys

Our managing director, Captain Sven Fromm,has been a full, accepted member of theInternational Institute of Marine Surveying since2009 and is, therefore, able to act as arepresentative of owners/managers ininsurance cases.

It is within his expertise to liaise with the differentunderwriters and insurers in order to minimise costs,and to protect the owner’s/manager’s interest in anycase of dispute. He has represented numerousowners during his marine career. His representationshave covered the following situations:• Collisions;

• Groundings;

• Unsafe port cases;

• Cargo handling damages;

• Short shipment claims;

• Cargo water damages; and

• Cargo mishandling claims (reefer container,wrong cargo care, etc.).

He is also able to work for the underwriter orinsurer but needs to be approved by the particularunderwriter/insurer on a case-by-case basis.

We can offer the above services due to the factthat we have three ISM auditor certificates fromLloyds Register, as well as one companysecurity officer certificate within our team.

The team has also developed a shipboard safetymanagement manual, including a crewing andmanning manual, as well as a ship security plan,which were all approved by DNV and GL.

During the beginning of 2013, the team of CleverMarine Services Ltd completed a crewing andmanning manual (CMM) compliant to MLC 2006,which already passed MLC Audits under belowlisted flags. The MLC compliant CMM can also beeasily adapted to suit existing shipboard safetymanagement manuals, in accordance with theISM code.

The team can perform ISM, ISPS or other requiredaudits for our clients, and is also experienced inperforming port and vessel feasibility studies andsimilar tasks.

Ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) isonly one discipline in the field of non-destructive testing (NDT).

Clever Marine Services Ltd has dedicated its

training of personnel to higher UT qualifications

and all other disciplines of NDT since the end of

2011. This was the logical next step because of

our location in the Isle of Man, which is only hours

away from offshore and marine centres such as

Aberdeen, Liverpool, Tyne and Wear, Hamburg and

Rotterdam, as well as the UK and Scandinavian

offshore exploration shelf.

In the meantime, Clever Marine can offer the

following NDT disciplines for the listed purposes:

• NDT/UT Technology: weld inspections, flaws

and laminations, material testing;

• Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI): weld

inspections, fatigue and stress cracking and
