Program Diagrams

Section through buildings I & II

Lessons learned:

Technical-During the course of this project, i advanced my skills in Photoshop as seen in the sections/elevations and program diagrams. I also became familiar with SketchUp.

Design-This project included a strong interplay of the buildings with the surrounding urban fabric. The tension between the bold forms of the buildings and the existing built environment led to an interesting dialogue where the landscape design was critical in resolving the design challenges.

The first of two projects in the spring of 2011. The studio was designed to focus on digital production methods and digital design media.

DISPERSIONDispersion - the spreading out of a cluster of individual parts.

To serve the many programatic requirements of a kunsthalle, several individual spaces meeting the unique demands the exhibits, the staff, the administration and the patrons is needed. Dispersion meets these needs uniquely by separating volumes designated for different tasks.

Exhibition space inside the boxes provides a completely controlled environment that is adaptable to the needs of the exhibition.

Secondary spaces between and on top of some of the boxes that are within the main glazing provide outdoor exhibition space that can be enjoyed year round.

The primary spaces or boxes are made from steel and colored glass exterior and are illuminated to give the impression of glowing boxes that are floating in space.

The boxes penetrate the boundary of the main volume that is enclosed with glazing. Secondary spaces are developed between the boxes when intersecting planes formed with concrete slabs cut through the main volume.

This project was for a new unsthalle space in ew ork City adjacent to the High Line Park on the city's west side. The project is a point of departure for considering the relationship between art and public space in the city.

Lessons learned:

Technical-During the course of this project, i've become familiar with Rhino (d modeling software), and have begun to investigate the abilities of vray(for rendering). I also was introduced to the use of a laser-cutter.

Design-Although this project involves the interplay of spaces and the investigation of ways to develop different spaces, I also used this project as an opportunity to investigate the use of strong colors.

PATI DEL RIU PERDUTCourtyard of the River Lost

Consideration of social, cultural, demographic and strategic aspects of the site led to the development of a public space and the relocating the existing parking directly underneath the new courtyard.

El Pati was to be located behind Mercat de la Boqueria in Barcelona, Spain.

THE LST RIVER:

The lot adjacent to the Boqueria market in Barcelona will be transformed into a Courtyard of the River Lost, a public square which simultaneously raises the environmental awareness while being a playful area of relaxation. The layout of el Pati gently reminds us of an ancient river that has been encroached upon by urban development and practically lost to Barcelona, while the colors bring playfulness and reflect the vibrancy of urban life inherent in

the adjacent market.

AAREESS:

ater will be collected from run-off from the surrounding rooftops, filtered and then utilized in adding a relaxing element to the park. After use in the park, the water can then be used for grey water uses in the market.

The changes in the water level in el Pati reflect the balance between the collection of rainwater and use of the water, heightening

awareness of water use issues.

Lessons learned:

Technical-During the course of this project, i've become familiar with using cnc router and furthered my knowledge of adobe software such as Photoshop and Indesign.Design-during the course of this project, i investigated the interplay of society, culture and the built environment.

VIVARIUMT H E A S H E V I L L E

Vivarium

Vivarium means a place of life. Types of vivariums include aquariums, terrariums, insectariums and paludariums. The Asheville Vivarium will bring together various ecosystems for observation, research, education and as a center of attraction for locals and tourists.

The re-programing and re-skinning the existing modern style building was intended to begin discussions concerning ways that the underutilized building might be re-worked and re-mixed.

The existing BB&T building in downtown Asheville, C

The various ecosystems contained in the different aquariums, terrariums, etc., would be representative of those found in orth Carolina.

Atop the vivarium is a beach. The beach is a place for relaxing and enjoyment, and will be the only beach with views of the spectacular surrounding city and mountains. The beach celebrates the 'life' being observed and studied below, and will attract some patrons that might not otherwise consider visiting the vivarium.

This project addresses the portion of Lexington Ave. between the downtown

area of Asheville and I-240.

The existing various programs along this portion of Lexington Ave. could benefit from a more pedestrian freindly area and the attraction of the
