    Introduction

    CMS:

    The CMS (Customer Maintenance Support) is a system that supports the customer who

    conducts a parts replacement operation by himself without getting an technical assis-

    tance from the customer engineer, to minimize the downtime (shutdown period of the

    machine operation) of the machine of the customer.

    Notices to the customer who employs the CMS:

    When you want to employ the CMS, be sure to follow the instructions given by the cus-

    tomer engineer.

    And also, when you conduct a part replacement operation, be sure to read each replace-

    ment instruction and follow the specific instructions given in it. For your safety while in the

    replacement operation, be sure to keep this CMS Instructions for Replacement safely,

    and also be careful not to get it lost. Should it get lost, contact our service representative.

    For your safe operation, the following are the descriptions of the notices and requests that

    you have to follow when replacing parts. Be sure to read them carefully before conducting

    any part replacement operation.

    Be sure to keep this CMS Replacement Instructions not to get it lost.

    Be sure to follow the caution items given in the CMS Replacement Instructions.

    In this CMS Replacement Instructions and on the copier, various types of graphic expres-

    sions are employed to allow you to conduct a part replacement operation properly without

    causing harm to you as well as other people, and also damage to the property.

    The expressions and their meaning are as shown below.

    Meaning of the graphic expression

    WARNING

    Indicates an action having a high possibility of suffering death or a

    serious injury when handled inappropriately without taking no noticeof this expression.

    CAUTION

    Indicates an action having a high possibility of suffering an injury or

    causing damage to the property when handled inappropriately without

    taking no notice of this expression.

    Examples of graphic symbols

    This symbol indicates an action that requires an additional caution (including

    warning). A specific description of the caution is given in the symbol.

    Ex.) [ ] This is a graphic symbol representing High temperature.

    This symbol indicates an action prohibited. A specific description of the prohibition

    is given inside the symbol or in its vicinity.

    Ex.) [ ] This is a graphic symbol representing Do not disassemble.

    This symbol indicates an action that must be carried out. A specific description of

    the action is given inside the symbol.

    Ex.) [ ] This is a graphic symbol representing Unplug power cord.

    Operations before replacing any part:

    CAUTION

    When conducting a part replacement operation, be sure to

    get guidance from the customer engineer. And also, read

    the CMS Replacement Instructions carefully before con-

    ducting a part replacement operation by following the pre-

    scribed procedure and using tools also prescribed.

    Be sure not to conduct any operations other than those

    described in the CMS Replacement Instructions. When

    the prescribed procedure and tools are not employed, this

    may cause damage to the copier or you may get injured.

    The temperature gets high in the vicinity of the fusing unit.

    You may get burned when you come into contact with the

    area.

    Before replacement operations, make sure that more than

    20 minutes have elapsed since the main and sub power

    switches were turned off.

    WARNING

    Before starting operations, be sure to unplug the power

    copier main body and the optional equipment from thepower When the power cord is plugged into the power out-

    let, some electrical components may be energized even if

    the power switch turned off. So, be careful not to get an

    electric shock.

    CMS part replacement operation:

    WARNING Do not allow any metal parts such as clips, staples and

    screws to fall into the inside or opening of the copier.

    They may cause a short circuit to the internal parts of the

    copier, thus leading up to a risk of an electric shock or fire.

    Check the wiring harness for squeezing and any other

    damage.

    Current may leak, thus leading up to a risk of an electric

    shock or fire.

    Make sure the wiring cannot come into contact with sharp

    edges, burrs, or other pointed parts.

    Current can leak, leading to a risk of electric shock or fire.

    Make sure that all screws, components, wiring, connec-

    tors, etc. that were removed for safety check and mainte-

    nance have been reinstalled in the original location. (Pay

    special attention to forgotten connectors, pinched cables,

    forgotten screws, etc.)

    A risk of product trouble, electric shock, and fire exists.

    CMS part replacement operation:

    WARNING

    Power plug, power code:

    WARNING

    Make sure the power cord is plugged in the wall outlet

    securely.

    Contact problems may lead to increased resistance, over-

    heating, and the risk of fire.

    When using the power cord set (inlet type) that came with

    this product, make sure the connector is securely inserted

    in the inlet of the product. When securing measure is pro-

    vided, secure the cord with the fixture properly.

    If the power cord (inlet type) is not connected to the prod-

    uct securely, a contact problem may lead to increased

    resistance, overheating, and risk of fire.

    Do not insert the power plug into the wall outlet with a wet

    hand.

    The risk of electric shock exists.

    When unplugging the power cord, grasp the plug, not the

    cable.

    The cable may be broken, leading to a risk of fire and elec-

    tric shock.

    When any abnormal condition is found:

    WARNING

    When the copier gets hot abnormally, or when it gives out

    smoke, a foul smell or abnormal noise, turn off the power

    switch at once.

    And then be sure to unplug the power cord from the power

    outlet and contact our service technician.

    When the copier is let fall or when the cover is damaged,

    turn off the power switch at once. And then, be sure to

    unplug the power cord from the power outlet and contact

    our customer engineer.

    Using the copier as it is may lead up to a fire, or you may

    get an electric shock.

    CAUTION

    Some internal parts of the copier develops a high tempera-

    ture, and you may get a burn when you come into contact

    with one of these parts. When checking the internal parts

    while in a part replacement operation, be careful not come

    into contact with a section like these (around the fusing

    unit) with a symbol indicating High Temperature pro-vided.

    Handling of toner and developer:

    WARNING

    Toner and developer are not harmful substances, but care

    must be taken not to breathe excessive amounts or let the

    substances come into contact with eyes, etc. It may be

    stimulative.

    If the substances get in the eye, rinse with plenty of water

    immediately. When symptoms are noticeable, consult a

    physician.

    Never throw the used cartridge and toner into fire.

    You may be burned due to dust explosion.

    Grounding:

    WARNING

    Connect the power cord to an electrical outlet that is

    equipped with a grounding terminal.

    For this copier, there are the caution notices or labels for safety operations provided at the

    locations as shown below. Be sure to take every care to avoid any accidents while in the

    part replacement operation.

    REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Drum unit/K

    1.1 Removal procedure

    1. Open the lower front door [1].

    2. Release the securing levers [1] for

    the waste toner box, and then

    remove the waste toner box [2].

    3. Loosen the shoulder screw [1], and

    pull out the drum unit/K [2].

    4. Hold the fixed lever [1] for the drum

    unit/K at two positions, and remove

    the drum unit/K [2] while loosening

    the fixed lever.

    1.2 Reinstall procedure

    1. Remove the new drum unit/K fromthe black protective bag.

    2. Remove caps [1] at the front and the

    back of the drum unit/K.

    3. Put the drum unit/K on the develop-

    ing unit/K.

    NOTE

    Do not tilt the drum unit/K when

    putting it on the developing unit/K.

    (Keep the drum unit/K level.)

    Position the drum unit/K so that

    part A of the drum unit/K is inserted

    into part B of the developing unit/K.

    NOTE

    Position the drum unit/K so that

    part C of the drum unit/K is inside

    the film [1] located on the main

    body rail. (Check that Part C is not

    on the top of the rail.)

    4. Remove the protective sheet [1] for

    the PC drum.

    5. Secure the drum unit/K [1] to the

    developing unit/K with the two levers

    [2].

    NOTE

    Push the front and back levers in

    the direction of the arrow at a time

    to secure the drum unit/K.

    Make sure the drum unit/K is

    securely fixed with two levers.

    Check that the front lever [3] of the

    drum unit/K is parallel to the verti-

    cal line marked on the label [4] on

    the developing unit/K.

    6. Insert the imaging unit/K [1] into the

    machine, and tighten the shoulderscrew [2] to secure the drum unit/K.

    7. Reinstall the waste toner box [1].

    8. Close the lower front door [1].

    9. Proceed to replace the ozone filter.

    2. Ozone filter

    1. Remove the ozone filter [1], and

    replace it.

    2. Proceed to replace the toner filter.

    3. Toner filter

    1. Remove the toner filter [1], and

    replace it.
