Standard bushfire requirements to also be satisfied are as

o 10,000Itr. above ground water tank conc. or metal - A minimum o f 10,000 litres effective water supply f o r fire fighting purposes must be established and maintained on the site that is stored in an above ground water tank constructed o f concrete or metal. All fixed above-ground water pipes and fittings required f o r fire fighting purposes must be made of corrosive resistant metal.

o The water supply must meet the following requirements:

- The outlet/s of the water tank must be within 4m of the accessway and be unobstructed.

o Accessway needs 3.5m trafficable width + 0.5m each side for firefighter access.

o The water supply system must be designed such that it will be hydraulically possible for a CFA appliance to draw water from the outlet, when taking into account site conditions.

o Be readily identifiable from the building or appropriate identification signage t o the satisfaction of CFA must be provided.

o Include a riser up to the road level with a coupling (64mm CFA 3 thread per inch male fitting).

o Incorporate a ball or gate valve (British Standard Pipe (BSP) 65mm)

o All pipework and fittings must be a minimum of 65mm (excluding the CFA coupling).

o If the elevation from the base of the water supply to the outlet point is greater than 6m a pump will need to be installed at the supply to boost the water up to the outlet point. Installation would be to AS 2419.1 2005 - Fire Hydrant Installations standard e.g. use of 100 ml pipe etc.

o If a pump is installed i t is preferable that the pump is diesel operated. The pump should be installed in a ventilated non-combustible enclosure to protect it from radiant heat. Weatherproof signage indicating the placement o f the pump and the pumps operating instructions shall be placed both at the pump and at the outlet point.
