Conquest of Africa Map Exercise
Africa was divided by European countries who wanted to control the land to gain precious natural resources. Every territory in Africa was controlled by a European power except two.
Directions for Map Exercise:
Use the labeled Map to help you complete the following assignment.
1. Create a key on the outline map of Africa indicating the color of each European power. You may use whichever colors you prefer, but I have provided an example below.
2. Below is a list of each European power and an example color.
• British - Red
• French - Green
• German - Blue
• Belgium - Yellow
• Italian - Orange
• Spain - Pink
• Portuguese - Brown
• Independent (not controlled by a European power) – White
3. On the map, color each African territory the color of the European power that colonized it based on the labeled map. Below is the list of African territories and the European power that colonized them.
