• Adjustable shutter speed or sports mode essential

Recording effective video footage: Bowling

• The side-on or panning camera:– Set up between the bowling crease the popping

crease (open side of bowler)– Adjust the stand to set the camera at

approximately waist height and zoom so you can see the height of release position to below the feet, capturing the full image of bowler at point of delivery

– Adjust the stand to allow fluent, level, lateral movement from start of run-up through to follow through (practice prior to first trial)

– Hang a sheet in the background where possible to create a clear background



• The side-on or panning camera:



• The front-on camera:– Set up the camera in a line from middle

stump to middle stump, behind the striker’s stumps (if behind a net be aware that the net may effect the camera’s automatic focus)

– Adjust the stand to set the camera at approximately waist height and zoom so you can see the height of release position to below the feet, capturing the full image of bowler at point of delivery

– Adjust the stand to ensure there is no movement



• The front-on camera:



• The overhead camera (if available):– Set up the camera stand alongside the return

crease so that it does not interfere with the delivery

– The boom should extend above the bowling crease and provide a view from pre-delivery to just after release

– Adjust the lens so you can see the intended area throughout the delivery and fix in position

– Adjust the stand to ensure there is no movement

Bowling• The overhead camera (if available):


Recording effective video footage: Batting & Fielding• As for bowling with the option of a rear view• Usually in a fixed position (preferable)• Alternate viewing positions that are slightly off-

centre to expose further information can be utilized (e.g. mid-off or slip corden)

• Hand held is an option

DIGITAL VIDEO EQUIPMENTRecording effective video footage:

General Hints:1. Remove lens cover2. Set shutter speed to a minimum of 500 or select sports mode3. If the area is dark then reduce the shutter speed to allow more light.4. Set camera up so it is not directly facing the sun or any other bright light

source5. Use lines on courts, markers or poles in the background as reference points6. Set up a speed measuring device if available (Bowling & Throwing)7. Set up line and length targets (Bowling)8. Ensure the athlete is thoroughly warmed up 9. Start to record 2-3 seconds prior to the commencement of the event and

continue until follow-through is complete (most cameras have a slight delay)10. Record a minimum of three balls from each view position11. An open field or centre wicket is the best venue for gathering footage

Nets are a last resort1. Clear the recording area of all obstacles, including people

MOVEMENT ANALYSIS SOFTWARE

• Used to capture an athletes’ movement or motion for analysis or comparison

• Enables captured video to be presented in a variety of different modes (real speed; slow motion; frame-by-frame)

• Provides a viewing component with a range of tools for analysis and measurement

MOVEMENT ANALYSIS SOFTWARE

• An example: siliconCOACH– used by Cricket Australia (including each state)

and a large number of cricket nations around the world

MATCH ANALYSIS SOFTWARE

• Used to capture and code each match event and store in a database for immediate or future reference

• Provides visual and statistical measures of match events

• Products:– Cricket Analyst (Australia & four states, West Indies)– Cadability (South Australia, Sri Lanka)– Sportscode (New South Wales)– e-cricket pro (India)– e-cricket (England & New Zealand)

MATCH ANALYSIS SOFTWARE

• An example: The Cricket Analyst– used by the Queensland Bulls and other
