An important interlude between a busy day and a lovely

night, Apero is a French tradition; a pre-dinner drink and snack

to stimulate the appetite and unwind after the day.

We celebrate Spring

In 1895, a group of hoteliers, seeking a way of providing entertainment

and visitors for the city of Menton, suggested to the municipality that there be a parade through the city. In 1928, Menton was still the number one

lemon-growing region in Europe. A an exhibition of flowers and citrus fruit was organised in the gardens of the Hôtel Riviera.

It was so successful that, the following year, the event moved into the

streets, with carts covered with orange and lemon trees along with lovely local girls. Wishing to develop tourism, the municipality sought to give to this new event a typically local colour. The Lemon Festival was born in 1935. It was proven to be an enormous success, confirmed year after year with street animations, night parades, and the Gardens of light!

Armagnac is the oldest brandy distilled in France; and, in the past, it was consumed for its therapeutic benefits.

Armagnac is traditionally distilled once, resulting in 52% of alcohol. This

results in a more fragrant and flavourful spirit than Cognac, where double distillation takes place. Long ageing in oak barrels softens the taste and causes the development of more complex flavours and a brown colour.
