“What is the relationship between the organization’s culture and ethical decision-making?”

When we look to the relationship between RCRMC’s organizational culture and ethical-decision making we must first understand their Code of Ethics and their Mission statement. The RCRMC is an organization prided on providing its patients and their families with the best care in their diverse population. To act in the public’s interest to be honest and truthful and to demonstrate personal integrity and privileged information. To uphold the standards of the County Code of Ethics this facility operates on the ideas that the patients cultural, economic or ethical status does not determine their level of respect or care they will receive. The vision statement also values the fiscal responsibilities with the scarce resources they receive. Also that care will be delivered with the utmost respect and privacy of their personal information and without criticism. It is assured that effective ethical services will be provided by professional workers without conflict around or near the patient, if this occurs there may be a referral to the RCRMC Bio-Ethics Committee for resolution.

The mission and vision along with values of the staff and management of the RCRMC facility is centered on giving superior care to the residents of Riverside County and to do so with a tradition of superior quality and service. Their commitment is to give service with respect, dignity, and sensitivity with safety and quality their utmost concern. By having these as their standards of care, they can maintain the patients, and the organizations best interest at hand. With the importance of maintain privacy and ethical decision-making as a priority it will show the community that they care about them and their values as a person not just a patient. The organizations culture and ethical decision-making is on the patient’s safety, care, and compassion and how they can meet their needs with the best quality of care and staff.

Because an organizations culture is molded by the values, behaviors, attitudes, and common practices displayed throughout the organization. With making any medical decisions it is not easy to do, and RCRMC takes all aspects of the patient into consideration of his or her care. Some decisions are made by evaluating the patient’s religious beliefs, cultural, and also the professional duties of the staff (Fremgen, 2009). In using their ethics to evaluate the situation this allows the organization to make good choices. They can help the families make ethical choices by being well informed to make decisions.

The quality of care suffers when an organization does not practice ethical behavior. Administrators, doctors, and other health care workers provide ineffective care when their priorities become skewed. Care eventually is eroded when the organization’s culture promotes greed and power over patient-centered care (Ray, 2013). By keeping patient care the first priority, smaller health care organizations enhance the quality of care in the community. Staff performance and morale improves when employees believe their concerns for quality patient

care are backed up by the administration. This is why the relationship between the organizational culture and ethical decision making are so closely related and so important to the RCRMC.
