Code of Integrity – Outreach Toolkit What is the Code of Integrity? The VHA Code of Integrity or the “Code” is a “go to” resource for finding high-level guidance and contact information for a wide range of ethical conduct and concerns, from protecting confidential Veteran information to ensuring the accuracy of reported statistics to making the workplace environment safer. The Code is centered around VA’s ICARE values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence. It’s not new policy – it simply brings together the patchwork quilt of existing material into one high-level, umbrella document.

How Should I use this Toolkit? This toolkit contains tips and information on incorporating the Code into conversations about compliance and ethics and helps all VHA employees, from compliance officers to front desk staff at VA medical centers, feel confident when talking about the Code. Each tool has its own description to help you find the right one to communicate the Code. You may use all or some of the tools within this toolkit – whatever works best for you and your team!

Why Should I use this Toolkit?This toolkit is a one-stop shop for all your Code communication needs. The more we can make the Code information available, the less intimidating it is for a VHA employee to report incidents and concerns. The Code can help us create a culture that’s conducive to the highest ethical standards in our work.
