Coffs Harbour Public School
14th May 2014
Dear Parents and Carers, Congratulations to our student leaders for their outstanding behaviour and participation at the GRIP Leadership conference last Thursday. They came back to school buzzing with new information and ideas of how to be great leaders. Thanks to Ms Hayes for supervising during the day.
Students in Years 3 and 5 are sitting the NAPLAN assessments this week. Yesterday they completed the Language Conventions and Writing assessments. Today is Reading and tomorrow is Mathematics.
We’re getting excited for next Tuesday’s ‘Food Revolution Day’ sponsored by Woolworths. All students will be able to make their own lunch at school. Lunch will be a salad wrap with or without ham, a bottle of water and a piece of fruit. We thank Woolworths for this fantastic initiative. Students will still need to bring their crunch ‘n’ sip and their recess.
Coffs Harbour City Council has been in touch to advise us that the local rangers have been patrolling around our school and have noticed that cars are parking in incorrect zones. They asked us to let families know that they will be issuing tickets over the next few weeks. I am in discussions with the council to look at parking around our school as it continues to be of concern. I will let you know the outcome.
Good luck to our large group of students attending the District Cross Country carnival this Friday. The local Eisteddfods and Coffs Harbour Show are coming up. Many of our students will be representing our school in dance and choir. We wish you well and thank Mrs Ford for her hard work preparing our students.
Last Friday a group representing students,
parents, community and school staff completed a Schools Impression Audit. The purpose was to look at our school grounds, buildings, tone and the feel of our school. I will table the findings at the next P&C meeting, Student Representative Council meeting and staff meeting for further discussion. Many thanks to the group for their comments. We have had a great start to the term with lots of important events having already occurred. A huge thank you to our P&C for running a very well organised and successful Mother's Day Stall last week. I know that lots of our mum’s would have been very excited and happy on Sunday morning when they were surprised with their special gifts. This would not be possible without the support of our school community and the many volunteers who support such events by giving up their very valuable time.
Have a great week, Leonie

Library News Book Club was due on Monday 12th May. Orders will return within the next week and will be delivered to the children.
A reminder that May is ‘Family Reading Month’. Call in to our library or join the Coffs City Library and see what you can borrow. It will cost you nothing!
Chess Club has commenced again in 2014. Eve-ry Wednesday at recess in the library interested students can join Yarob (our talented SLSO) and get some tuition. Miss Lane will be choosing a representative team to go to Sawtell soon. North Coast Rugby League Trials
On Friday 9th May Mr Pike had the privilege of taking away 3 talented rugby league players from Coffs Harbour Public School to Grafton to try out for the North Coast Rugby League Team. Malakhi Donovan, Mabior Garang and Franklin Samburuma had previously been selected in not only the local district team, but also the Mid-North Coast team, which in itself is a tremendous accomplishment. All three boys didn't let themselves or our school down and fortunately Malakhi and Mabior were successful in being selected in the North Coast side. They will now travel to Lennox Head later this month to participate in a two day camp and then early in June they will travel to Cronulla to take part in the NSW State Rugby League tournament, where they will have the opportunity to be selected in the NSW U11’s Rugby League team. Congratulations boys and we all wish you luck in Cronulla!
