Umag is a town of approx. 14000 inhabit-ants, located on the west coast of Istria, in close vicinity to Slovenia and Italy. It is the westernmost town in Istria. The town has rich sports infrastructure and is regarded as an important sports destination - it is the host of an important ATP tournament, and on the national level it is considered the football and handball centre.

A few years ago, the first professional golf course in Istria was built here. Umag is regarded as a reliable destination for winter preparations of football clubs and football teams, and it often hosts football tourna-ments and professional meetings at the highest level.

Novigrad is located some 15 kilometres south of Umag, also on the Istrian Adriatic Coast. Novigrad is a small town with some 4000 inhabitants, a high standard of living and great communal amenities.

The completion of the modern sports hall represents the crown of sport development of this town - a unique combination of sporting spirit, coastal beauty and elegance.

Novigrad has proven itself as a good host for football teams in search of favourable conditions for practice and overall team advancement.

Following a rich football tradition, with the development of maritime tourism and accommodation capacities in the last 50 years, Northwest Istria has come up with a well organized offer of programmes and packages for sports teams, especially in the sector of football team preparations.

Umag and Novigrad, the coastal cen-tres of Northwest Istria, have already proven themselves as a great choice for preparations of football teams coming from various European countries. This can be contributed to excellent sports and accommodation facilities and cuisine, as well as the application of modern organization and management models.

The distance between the facilities is roughly 15 km, or approximately a 10-minute ride, provided by an excel-lent connection between Umag and Novigrad. No matter in which facility they are accommodated, teams have easy access to the infrastructure of the

entire cluster, while friendly matches can be played in Umag and Novigrad. This increases the number of potential opponents and adds quality to football preparations in the Northwest Istria.

During winter months, football players from Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Ger-many, Switzerland, Russia, Croatia and a number of other countries practice here.

Northwest Istria is also a host and organizer of international tournaments, and the Croatian Football Federation, in cooperation with the UEFA, regu-larly organizes not only various camps and qualifying matches here but also courses and seminars.

HNS has been organizing camps for football players of all age groups between January and May for years, and regularly chooses Northwest Is-tria as a host for qualifying matches in categories U15, U16, U17, U19, U21, as well as for matches of the women’s national football team.

Umag is a regular host to the UEFA trainings for referees and coaches, not to forget the January student group exchange programmes, also in the organization of UEFA and HNS, with participation of youth coaches from Finland, Poland and Ireland. During this programme, several dozen perspective European coaches for junior categories meet up in Northwest Istria.

During preparations foot-ball teams enter a new surrounding, away from regular thinking and behaving patterns. The team members must rely on themselves, just like on the field, so in this sense they already get the opportunity to pro-gress, learn and develop team spirit.

Umag and Novigrad develop pro-grammes individually tailored to the needs and requirements of football clubs and national teams.

We offer quality services according to the international standards for top teams and base our formula on five basic elements of the offer. The five basic elements are as follows:

The basic precondition for our services is infrastructure. We invest a lot in the con-struction and maintenance of modern sports facilities - fields, locker rooms and auxiliary rooms, as well as sports equipment.

We offer accommodation in high quality hotels that are very sports-oriented and always offer nutrition for athletes and additional features such as wellness and fitness. Laundry and shoe-cleaning service are also available, and it is pos-sible to organize transport to and from the airport for training and matches at the hotel.

When it comes to the actual training area, the cluster offers teams help with schedule and programme planning.

Thanks to our contacts and years of experience, we can organize practice matches and tournaments, as well as friendly matches with national and international opponents.

Furthermore, we offer organization of various leisure time activities, among others, wellness services for football teams, fans, media and sponsors.


The region is proud of a large number of football fields, places where healthy sporting spirit is developed and where future champions are made.

There are eleven football fields in Umag in total; five of them are located directly in the town.

The large football complex Stella Maris is located in close vicinity of the accommodation facilities. It consist of a stadium licensed for all competitive levels, two auxiliary turf fields and a newly-built field with artificial turf and lightning, also licensed for all competitive levels. Besides the football fields located in the wider Umag area (Petrovija, Savudrija,

Juričani, Babići, Marija na Krasu), there are 8 more fields in the cluster area.

Four are located in Novigrad (a ten-minute walk from the hotel), and others in Buje, Brtonigla, Dajla and Nova Vasa.

From all the fields in the region, nine meet the dimensions prescribed by FIFA (100x64m), and one of them is for competitive matches, with lightning and stands which can accommodate 800 viewers.

The new Stella Maris Football Complex consisting of five fields has been positioned on the attractive Umag riviera. Apart from its three grass fields and two football pitches with stands and locker rooms, there is a club building with business premises, a bar and a sports goods store. The entire complex, which importance has been influ-enced by immediate vicinity of all accommodation types in Umag, as built in line with high standards set by FIFA, the governing body of football.

There are three football pitches currently in use including a newly completed grass field. The new football field is pri-marily intended for training purposes of those teams who choose Umag for their training destination. The 104x67m natural grass football field offers well equipped additional facilities: two spacious locker rooms with showers and sanitary facilities, seating area for 24 players and a strategy board. Field equipment includes benches for reserve players and delegates. There are goals (732x244 cm) on the field as well as additional mobile goals with wheels. All additional training equipment is also available on the field: human wall with wheels, hurdles, training T-shirts, a net with 20 balls, a pole slalom, coordination ladder, a football trolley and an electric compressor football pump. Training equipment storage is also located next to the field.

Umag has become highly desired as a football destina-tion dominantly building its image as an ideal partner for football teams of all ages and competition levels.

Laguna Novigrad provides superbly equipped sports fa-cilities for professional athletes, including football pitch-es ideal for trainings. The complex, consisting of a total of five pitches, has made Novigrad a dynamic town for quality football outdoor trainings. Mild Mediterranean climate enables trainings throughout the year.

Three bigger football pitches have natural grass play-ing surfaces, while two are made of artificial turf. The smaller pitch (60x40m) is located next to the Laguna Novigrad facilities, while the bigger one with the stands (103x62m) is situated in nearby Dajla. The biggest grass field of Laguna Novigrad (100x66m) is a new playing field (2013) built in line with cutting-edge soc-cer standards. This field as well as all others within the Laguna Novigrad complex, has been supplemented by additional facilities, locker rooms and a wash-up area.

All football pitches in Novigrad have quality lighting which enables training sessions during evening hours as well. Coaches, educated in one of the most suc-cessful European clubs, manage small groups of players of up to 12 children.
