What is Wrong with White
Sugar?
Refined white sugar has been linked to dental cavities, increased cholesterol levels, heart disease,
hypoglycemia, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis and
nutritional deficiencies.
Can create dramatic fluctuations in blood sugar which, over time, can wear down both the pancreas and the
adrenal glands.
Because it provides no nutrition, most dietitians agreethat white sugar has no legitimate place in a healthy
diet.

Sugary Drinks and Oral Health
Nearly doubles the risk of dental caries.
Acid in sugary drinks causes tooth erosion,OFTEN AFTER ONE SIP. (Diet drinks contain
acid)
Provide fuel for bacteria causing tooth decay.
Associated with plaque deposits in arteries.

Phosphoric acid in soft drinks causes
Phosphoric acid, used in many soft drinks, has been linked in epidemiological studies to
(1) Chronic kidney disease
(2) Lower bone density
(3) Kidney damage
(1) A study performed by the Epidemiology Branch of the US National Institute of Environmental
Health Sciences, concludes that drinking 1 or 2 cold drinks per day was associated with
doubling the risk of chronic kidney disease.

(2) A study using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry rather than a questionnaire about breakage,
provides reasonable evidence to support the theory that drinking cola results in lower bone
density. This study was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. A total of 1672
women and 1148 men were studied between 1996 and 2001.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17023723
(3) Your kidneys work hard to regulate phosphorous in your body and eliminate any excess you
consume, including in the form of phosphoric acid from soft drinks. This condition can lead to
organ damage, most notably kidney damage
-
According to new research by experts at Tufts
Univ., bone density in women may be reduced
by soda consumption.

Lower bone density means
osteoporosis and bone fracturesWorldwide, osteoporosis causes more than 8.9 million fractures
annually, resulting in an osteoporotic fracture every 3 seconds1.
Osteoporosis affects an estimated 75 million people in Europe,USA and Japan2.
By 2050, the worldwide incidence of hip fracture in men isprojected to increase by 310% and 240% in women3.

Hip fracture rates among the US population are the highest in the world.
The highest incidence of hip fractures from Asia has been reported from Singapore.
the hip fracture rates in the African population are much lower than in the western population.

The most effective way to prevent
osteoporosis is to eat a diet rich in vitamin
D and calcium and do exercise.
Cut out the soda
Cut down on animal protein
Eat alkaline foods
Get moderate sunshine
