What is Rolled Steel?

Sheet metal formed through a process in which steel stock is passed through one or more pairs of rolls to reduce the thickness and to make the thickness uniform.

Types of Rolled Steel

There are mainly two types of Rolled Steel -

> Hot Rolled Steel Sheet> Cold Rolled Steel Sheet

A Rolling Mill

Hot Rolled Steel Sheet

- Rolling processed at temperatures over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit

- Blue-Gray finish, feels rough to touch

- More Malleable, i.e, can be moulded into a variety of shapes

A coil of Hot Rolled Steel Sheet

Cold Rolled Steel Sheet

- Rolling processed at temperatures closer to normal room temperature

- Gray finish, feels smooth to touch

- Limited to a few shapes, such as round, square, flat etc.
