Springer, New Mexico 87747 Dear Friends and Neighbors: On behalf of the Colfax County Fair Association Board of Directors, I want to welcome all of you to the 2015 Colfax County Fair and Rodeo. This is my final year as president of the Colfax County Fair Association (CCFA). I have truly enjoyed serving as the president of the association for the past two years. It has been an honor to work with a great group of dedicated individuals that comprise the CCFA Board of Directors. Over the past two years, the CCFA has made big strides in improvements to the fair grounds. We have erected a new exhibit building, the Laird Pavilion, and have plans to continue to improve this building with new restrooms and a small kitchen facility. We could not have done this without the tremendous financial support of the Laird Foundation, many other Individuals, local Ranches and Businesses from across the County. Please enjoy your visit to the fair and rodeo this year. Be sure to visit the Laird Pavilion and see the great display of talent in our County. The theme of the Fair this year is Cowboy Boots and Country Roots. The theme celebrates our great western history and deep family roots that make Colfax County one of the best places in the State and World to live. We have a great rodeo lined up, some new events for your entertainment, and don’t forget to attend the Junior Livestock Sale on Saturday night. My sincere appreciation and thanks to the CCFA Board of Directors for their hard work and dedication. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the fair. Sincerely, Landon Newton

Born and raised in Raton, NM, Ernie and Bev Johnson have always been active members of Colfax County. As a young man, Ernie drove a delivery truck for Wonder Bread for 10 years. Then he became a delivery man for Meadow Gold delivering milk products. After 22 years of delivering to the schools, all the kids knew when the chocolate milk was coming! A short time after retiring from Meadow Gold, Ernie decided to go back to work by joining his wife, Bev, in driving a school bus. Before becoming a school bus driver, Bev attended beauty school in Albuquerque, NM. She then worked as a beautician for a few years. After driving for 39 years, Bev is a professional; although Ernie is coming in close behind her after driving for a total of 10 years now. They both truly enjoy seeing the kids every day; it keeps them young.

As young adults Ernie and Bev were married in Raton, NM on September 11th, 1964. They have been married for 51 years! Following their marriage

they had 3 great kids; Scott Johnson of “Do-It Right Electric”, Shad Johnson whom you may remember from KRTN radio, and Shana Burton who is a school teacher at Springer Elementary School. All of their children were active members of 4-H and FFA in Colfax County. While their children were growing up, Ernie and Bev were also active in Colfax County. Ernie was a member of the Colfax County Fair Board for many years and was president some of that time. During his time as president, he lead the board to making many improvements around the Colfax County Fairgrounds including welding various materials around the grounds, painting the arena, and putting in new water lines. Bev also did her part as a baking leader for 2 years. All in all Ernie and Bev have been a part of Colfax County for many years; they have made many friends in this county, especially Ernie. He knows no strangers; he truly enjoyed his time on the fair-board making life-long friends and visiting with everyone.

Today Ernie and Bev still enjoy their time at the Colfax County Fair by supporting their grandkids and all the kids from their bus routes. They will always be a part of this wonderful time and will always provide love and support for all the people involved!

Frank and Jeannie Burton have lived in the area for over 40 years and are honored to represent Colfax County as the Grand Marshals for the 2015 County Fair. Frank and Jeannie moved to Colfax County as a young couple, just starting their family. Frank was originally from Melrose, NM and Jeannie (Floyd) was from Raton. They courted and married while attending college at NMSU in Las Cruces. After living in Colorado for a few years, they moved to Black Lake in the early summer of 1970. They continued to move around the area a bit before buying some land in Antelope Valley and establishing a working ranch. They chose rural northeastern New Mexico as their home and quickly became involved in the various activities that climax at the Colfax County Fair each fall. Their children have always been involved in 4H and FFA projects and have exhibited their work. Jeannie has also exhibited handicrafts and gardening entries throughout the years. Frank served on the Colfax County Fair Board for a number of years and has always lent a helping hand during livestock weigh-in and at other times during fair week. Frank has also helped to encourage and maintain a strong structure for the Colfax County Jr. Livestock Sale which is among the most successful livestock sales in the state. Jeannie has helped check in indoor exhibits for many years and always enjoys getting an up-close view of other people’s handiwork. Frank and Jeannie both look forward to fair week each year as a time to see their long time neighbors and friends and share in the excitement of the Colfax County Fair.

Jessica Rae Pittman

2014-2015 COLFAX COUNTY FAIR & RODEO QUEEN

I'm Jessica Rae Pittman, daughter of Marlene and Jerry Pittman and granddaughter of Judy and Dave Hughes. I live in Cimarron, New Mexico, where I have resided for all but my first two years of life. I am the 2014-15 Colfax County Fair & Rodeo Queen, which has been an honor. As Queen, I assisted in the fair stock dog show, working calves in and out of the arena. I baked and helped with fundraisers at the bi-annual auctions to raise money for our cause. I had the privilege to hand out awards at the annual Colfax County 4H banquet in the fall. Most recently, I attended the "Riding on Faith" bull riders' camp in Maxwell, representing the CCFA and having a faith building experience as I witnessed that event.

My family has been behind me, supporting me, cheering me on, and encouraging me during this wonderful journey. I thank them for believing in me and going with me, as I follow my dreams. My dear friend and coach, Janna Mills, has been by my side as well, as she has been for many years. Her support and help have been a Godsend. Ms. Jeannie Barnes has been generous with encouragement and I appreciate her so much. I thank the Fair Board and the residents of Colfax County for this wonderful honor, for believing in me, and for helping me accomplish this task, with honor.

I want to encourage the girls who are running for, or thinking of running for, a Colfax County royalty crown. Follow your dream!! Don't be intimidated or afraid to just jump in and try it. This rural lifestyle we know and love is a lifestyle of honor...keep it alive! I will help you any way I can and I'll be your cheerleader.
