The events of April 15, 2013 forever marked the cultural landscape of Boston, MA and permanently scarred the history of the nations old-est marathon. But when examining the effects of the Boston Marathon %RPELQJVRQWKRVHLPSDFWHGVHYHUDOWKLQJVEHFRPHHYLGHQW7KHUVWLVthat there were three distinct groups that were impacted- the metro area of Boston, the runners who raced that day, and those who were severely injured. These three groups were impacted in different ways and recovered in different ways. The second over arching trend, is the pattern of recovery, strength, and resilience. This is the factor that is being recognized and commemorated in the three site memorial system along the 26 mile course. Each site is in honor of one group impacted. Resilience grows over the sites and along the course just as would during the race. For this proj-HFWDVLQWKHSK\VLFDOZRUOGUHVLOLHQFHLVGHQHGWKURXJKFRPSOH[LW\7KHmore complex, the more resilient. Complexity is built through out the sites LQSK\VLFDOIRUPHFRORJLFDOGLYHUVLW\DQGOHYHORIH[SHULHQFH7KHUVWVLWHis rigid with monocultures and one group of experience ,but by the third site the forms are organic with rich species diversity and experience potential.

Peace is a time of simplicity and clarity, but when tensions rise, suddenly there is a breaking point in the serene state of peace. Suddenly there is war, a time of chaos, pain, confusion and fear. However, the end of this state is not always clear. Times of chaos and disorganization can continue RQIRUGHFDGHVDIWHUDZDULVRIFLDOO\RYHU7KLVSHULRGRIpost-war chaos can ultimately fade into peace again. The site, located at the terminus of Genoas longest boulevard, overlooks the citys port and the Mediterranean Sea. This concept of war and peace is explored through the circulation and built forms of both the building and site.

The Upstate of South Carolina lies at the base of the Appalachian Moun-tains and is laden with opportunities for outdoor recreation. Because of the three-part lake system and rivers that trickle down out of the moun-tains, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and paddling are among the most popu-lar outdoor sports. This project started as a regional analysis process using *,6WRQGDOORIWKHH[LVWLQJZKLWHZDWHUUXQVHVWDEOLVKWKHPRVWYDOXDEOHareas for paddling using other cultural and ecological factors. Then once WKHPRVWVXLWDEOHDUHDVZHUHGHQHGDFRQFHSWXDOVLWHSODQZDVFUHDWHGthat addressed the needs of paddlers. The site selected lies at the end of section II of the Chattooga River. It has a circulation system and a series of built structures that allow for convenient river access and spectator possibilities. A planting palette was selected that best respects the existing conditions of the site, and frames views of the Chattooga River and the paddlers exploring it.

Two storage racks holding 4 boats each allows for 8 kayaks to be stored temporarily or for an extended period. The curvi-linear roof allows for protection against the elements and the curved base allows for plant growth by nearby ground cov-ers

Two chutes wide, this structure grants easier access into the river. The chute is 10 long with a moveable braces that stops the boat, but when released, the boat slides into the water. They are coated with polyurethane to prevent scratching

Taking its form from the storage shelf, this structure provides a place to allow viewers to watch river activity

Placed next to the kayak chute, this feature is a gathering spot, or waiting spot for paddlers. The rope attached to the rocks gives paddlers a place to grab onto and wait
