The biggest hurdle was ensuring my son did the footwork like applying to college, studying for the ACT, etc. The workbook helped us stay on top of him. We knew where he should be in the process and helped keep him on track.

My classmates would have also benefited from a college admissions workbook because many of [them] were still confused about which way to go when deciding colleges, majors, funding options, and just simply setting goals.

Based on data from the Louisiana Department of Education, New Orleans Public Schools 2011 Student Satisfaction Survey, and independent research.

The College Admissions Roadmap was co-written by Jeraul Mackey and Steven Pearson. Jeraul Mackey is an education policy specialist and entrepreneur. Most recently, he developed New Orleans Public Schools’ College and Graduation Coach position, a district-wide initiative to increase college-readiness and matriculation. Prior to working for NOPS, Jeraul was College Summit’s Public Policy and Government Affairs Specialist. In this role, he successfully pursued legislation to measure and make publicly available college enrollment rates by high school. He has also served on numerous state and local boards, including Louisiana’s Blue Ribbon Commission for Educational Excellence and Board of Regents for Higher Education. Jeraul is the founder of Appliki.

Steve Pearson is a veteran college counselor. Steve retired in 2007 from Decatur High School after working 20 years as the School Guidance Counselor. During his tenure, he provided postsecondary planning to over 3,000 students and families and helped increase the school’s college going rate from 50% in 1986 to an annual rate of nearly 85%. As a result, Steve was selected as a charter member of Governor Perdue’s GAcollege411.org initiative. He has also served as Associate Director of Admissions for Mercer University Atlanta and currently is a College Consultant for Brown Richards Associates.

Appliki develops tools to assist students and low-income families in the college planning process. We empower students interested in going to college and equip adults eager to help.
