Overview
NC College Application Week – Background
• CAW is an event cosponsored by CFNC and CACRAO in an effort
to further expand statewide college access
• The goal of the program is to provide all seniors at participating high
schools across the state the opportunity to apply to college online
using CFNC.org
• Particular focus is placed on students who may be the first in their
family to attend college and those students who may not have
seriously considered applying to college

• To participate, schools had to register on CFNC.org under the
agreement that they would:
-Make efforts to ensure every senior applied online to at least one college,
and
- Identify a site coordinator who is responsible for the planning and
implementation of the event.

NC College Application Week 2009 – Governor’s Support
• Governor Bev Perdue proclaimed November 16-20, 2009 “College Application Week” statewide
• Spoke with seniors at Grimsley High School in Greensboro to kick off CAW
• Drafted a letter to all participating seniors

• 421 high schools registered
• 116 school districts represented with at least on high school registered
• 75 school districts with all high schools registered
• Nearly 25,000 students submitted over 50,000 applications
• 58% of participating high schools have a free and reduced lunch population of 35% or higher

CFNC Transcript System
• 440 NCWise high schools currently participating

• All Wake county public schools added in October 2009
• Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Guilford County are currently exploring future participation
• 213,000 + electronic high school transcripts have been submitted since 2003

Requesting a HSCM
• Purpose: To assist students who have been denied admission from the institution of their choice and are seeking opportunities to pursue Higher Education in the fall.
• Goal: For every student in the College Redirection Pool to be contacted by at least one college or university.
• Participation History: In six years, over 4,000 students have participated in the College Redirection Pool.
• Dates Available: April 1 – August 31
• How to Register: Beginning April 1st, students can log into CFNC.org, select the College Redirection link on the home page and complete the registration form.
• What to expect: Students who participate will receive emails, packets of information, etc from campuses who have space available for the fall.
