Phil Review is the top generalist journal in philosophy. This kind of achievement that is rare: most don’t ever publish in such a prestigious venue, and only a very few leading lights do this more than once. This is Jason’s first, and he is in his first year with the K-State Philosophy Department. Five Geography graduate students received awards at the Great Plains/Rocky Mountain Regional Meeting of the Association of American Geographers, Kearney, Nebraska, October. Andrew Marshall, a 6th year Psychological Sciences graduate student in Dr. Kimberly Kirkpatrick’s laboratory, was presented with the University Distinguished Professors Graduate Research Award. Michal Zolkiewski, Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, received a K- INBRE Bridging Grant for "Molecular chaperones of Ehrlichia chaffeensis,$52,000, 9/1/15 - 4/30/16. B.K. Sandercock, Division of Biology, named Honorary Life Member, Cooper Ornithological Society, 2015. Award made for outstanding service as Series Editor for Studies in Avian Biology. The Physics Department hosted a well-attended public viewing of the lunar eclipse September 27. Large telescopes and binoculars were set up on the west side of Cardwell Hall on the K-State campus to view the lunar eclipse.

Nancy Morrow has had a Painting accepted into permanent collection of the Faulconer Gallery, Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA She was also awarded a Two Coats of Paint Artist Residency, Brooklyn, NY, September 25-October 3 Carlos Castellano’s Dissertation Symbiogenic Experience and the Emergent Arts: Cybernetics, Art and Existential Phenomenology was selected as one of the top-ranked dissertations for 2015 by Leonardo journal Matt Garcia participated in a Residency/Exhibit Alter Studio, at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris France. Lead by Nicolas Bourriaud, Simon Critchley, Mark Dion. Curated by Kathy Alliou, Head of the department of cultural and scientific development of the Beaux-Arts and Sarina Basta Gulbenkian curator associated to the Beaux-Arts.

Modern Languages Publications: Maria Depaoli’s article "Mexico and its Movement into Narrative Film: Mexican Women Writers" was published on September 30 in Women Screenwriters: An International Guide. Edited by Jill Nelmes and Jule Selbo and published by Palgrave Macmillan, 2015. The KSU Editorial Board of the open access journal Studies in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literature, headed by Editor Laura Kanost, published Vol. 39, Issue 2. It is a special issue titled "Testimonies of Environmental Injustice in the Global South," guest edited by Erin Finzer of UALR. STTCL has approximately 55,000 full-text downloads this year. http://newprairiepress.org/sttcl/ Doug Benson, Emeritus in Spanish, collaborated on two articles by Carmen Tomás, editor of the online journal Generación M: Revista cultural especializada en la figura de la mujer, with Sylvia Sherno from UCLA and Margaret Persin from Rutgers University. The articles are: "Mujer de verso en pecho: la poética adulta de Gloria Fuertes" and "Gloria Fuertes y el postismo." Presentations, Lectures, Conferences & Exhibitions: Earl Brown presented a poster entitled "Frequency effects on /f/ reduction in Modern Spanish: A reprise of a previous sound change?" at the annual Hispanic Linguistics Symposium, held this year at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, September 24 - 27, 2015. The poster is based on a co-author project that Earl is working on with Matthew C. Alba at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Benjamin McCloskey presented his paper, "Persian Antagonists: Xenophon's Cyrus Reconsidered," accepted by a double-blind peer review process, at the International Conference on the Ancient Novel V, in Houston, TX, which ran from September 30th to October 4th. Awards: Other: Claire L. Dehon reviewed an article for French Review. Laura Kanost and Adelia Peña Clavel of UNAM (Mexico City) matched 29 KSU students with UNAM Spanish/English conversation partners. The students speak via Skype and share their language and culture expertise. This is the 9th year of this exchange. Doug Benson worked all summer with a graduate student from Ecuador in K-State's Teaching and Learning Center to update our Tilford Group web site (tilford.ksu.edu) on multicultural curriculum transformation. The site was originally the project for Benson's Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars (2009-2010) and contains teaching resources for faculty and staff just beginning their diversity journey as well as for more advanced diversity practitioners. Awards: Frank Tracz: The Sudler Trophy for Outstanding Marching Band in the USA. Sept. 19, 2015. Other: Sally Bailey: arranged, planned, marketed, hosted, and facilitated weeklong visit of Randy Mulder and Village Playback Theatre. They performed and led workshops across campus for Community Cultural Harmony week, they performed at the Topeka Juvenile facility, they led a diversity workshop on the Salina Campus for business leaders in the Salina Community, and they taught a Playback Theatre class to the graduate students in the MA in Drama Therapy program. The Playback Theatre class presented two performances at the end of the course: one at the Topeka Women's Prison and one at the First Presbyterian Church. Harrington, Jr. organized and chaired a paper session and organized and chaired a panel session at the Great Plains/Rocky Mountain Regional Meeting of the Association of American Geographers, Kearney, Nebraska, October. The Beta Psi Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the international geographic honor society, earned an Honors Chapter Award for 2015. This honor recognizes the superior scholarship of K-State geography students and the first-rate activities of the group to celebrate and promote geography on campus and in the local community. Natural & Quantitative Sciences Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics Publications: Presentations, Lectures, Conferences & Exhibitions: Lawrence Davis served with Larry Erickson as the program committee for the 12th International Conference of the International Phytotechnologies Society in Manhattan, KS, Sept 27-30. More than 200 people, representing over 25 countries were in attendance. About 80 posters and more than 150 oral presentations were made. Davis was involved with 2 posters entitled "Boron uptake is regulated in sunflowers" and "Beneficial effects of trees at the Riley county landfill", in addition to a platform presentation "Perennial phytotechnoloy for sustainable land management at the former military sites in Slovakia and Ukraine." Tim Durrett presented two posters at the 12th International Phytotechnologies Conference Sept 27-30, Manhattan, KS: “Elucidating the Regulation of Storage Lipid Synthesis in Developing Seeds” by Durrett and Karanbir Aulakh (graduate), which won second place at the poster competition; and “Progress in the production of improved biofuels: Enhancing the production of acetyl-TAGs in a transgenic oil seed crop” by Durrett, Catherine Kornacki and Tam Tran-Nguyen (graduates). Karanbir Aulakh and Catherine Kornacki (graduates, Durrett) were PhytoScholars at the12th International Phytotechnologies Conference Sept 27-30, Manhattan, KS, which was a competitive program for graduate students to receive funding to attend the conference.
