Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 3rd annual COECSA ScientificCongress, to be held at the Enashipai Resort and Spa in Naivasha, Kenyafrom 27-28th August 2015. Evidence generation and disseminationremains the cornerstone of medicine and the COECSA Congress is thepremier scientific gathering of Ophthalmology in Eastern, Central&Southern Africa. Our program boasts of high quality speakers from theEastern Central &Southern Africa region and beyond with a diversegroup of internationally renowned key note speakers set to address us inNaivasha.

The congress includes parallel Ophthalmic Clinical Officers andOphthalmic Nurses, Optometrists sessions, as well as communities/subspecialty events. While scientific discourse is our top priority, thesocial program promises great entertainment and an opportunity toreconnect with old friends from Eastern, Central & Southern Africaregion and across the world.

Naivasha is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kenya lyingnorthwest of Nairobi and is a town in Nakuru County. The town boasts ofseveral spectacular tourists sites such as Hell's Gate National Park (themain location for Lion King movie), Lake Naivasha, and LakeElementaita where one can watch flamingoes and hipopotamus. Nearbyattractions also include the Mt. Longonot National Reserve and a horizonview of Mt. Longonot with its extinct volcano and crater forest.

Tourists activities within Naivasha include bird watching, hiking, gamedrives, cycling, nature walks, balloon rides, boat trips and fishing, horseriding amongst others.

Theme: Embracing Research & Technology in Ophthalmology

You are invited to forward your abstracts for inclusion in the scientificprogramme of the 3rd COECSA Congress to be held on 27-28 August2015. The theme of the Congress is “Embracing research and technologyin ophthalmology”.

Kindly find instructions for preparation of abstracts below:

Papers will only be accepted on the understanding that the mainauthor or a co-author will personally present the paper

All participants must disclose in writing in advance of the meetingany significant financial interest or other relationships they mayhave with the manufacturers of commercial products discussed intheir presentations, panel or written materials

Acceptance and presentation of oral presentations and postersrequire full payment of registration fees for the congress

Two Options:

1. Oral presentations: 10 minutes for presentation (7 presentation, 3minutes discussion)

2. Poster: there will be a poster session during breaks

Submissions

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 30 June 2015 Abstracts should not exceed 300 words Authors must state whether they wish their presentation to be

All posters should be a visual presentation of your submittedabstract and they should meet the following criteria:

Dimensions

The poster must be no larger than A0 size (AO size is 841mm x1189mm)

Orientation of your poster must be in portrait style

Title

The title should be the same as in the submitted abstract 20-24 mm or 100 point maximum Upper and Lower Case At the top of the poster include the title of the presentation, the

name of the authors and the institution where the work wascompleted.

Headings

48 point is suggested - 60 point maximum Title Case Headings such as “Introduction”, “Methods”, “Results”,

“Discussions” and “Conclusions” are useful

Content Lettering

The poster should be easily readable at a distance of two metres.Use UPPER and lower case for general content as the use of all-capital text is difficult to read. Avoid using a mixture of type/fontstyles

24-28 point - 32 point maximum Single spaced Upper and Lower Case The text should be brief throughout Any description of methods should be simple and concise

Content:

The message that your poster contains should be clear andunderstandable without the requirement of oral explanation.

Methods should be presented simply and concisely After the title, the two most important panels are the Introduction

and the Conclusion.

On the basis of these two panels, a reader will decide whether toconsider the poster details and perhaps talk to the presenter.

These panels need to be very simple, concise and visuallyattractive

Results should be presented graphically if possible. Avoid largetables of data. Results should be in line with those originallysubmitted in your abstract

Use pictures, symbols and colour. Figure legends are essential andshould be short but informative

Each graph should have a short heading. For visual effect, werecommend that graphs be no smaller than 12cm x 18cm

A matte finish on photographs gives better visibility. Photographsshould be no smaller than 12cm x 18cm

Use the space to attract your audience for discussion, not to presentcomplex details of methods and results

The registration fee for EACH trade delegate is USD 150 (Early Bird fee– Until February 28)

Both the Welcoming Function and Gala dinner are included. Theexhibition floor plan will be made available to interested companies afterwe have received your Intention Form.

Stand allocation will only be confirmed on receipt of full payment.Cancelled stands will result in a 50% cancellation fee of the total fee. Nocancellations will be accepted 3 weeks prior to the congress.

Build-up: Exhibitors will be expected to build stands on 26th August(from 07:00 till late) No further stand building (involving activitiessanding, painting, spray painting, sawing, welding inside the Exhibitionhall) will be allowed on 27th August at the venue.

Break down: Break down can commence from 28/08/2015 in theexhibition field. All stands should be completely cleared out by28/08/2015 1700 hours (EAT)

. By submitting an application to participate, the exhibitor makes anirrevocable commitment to occupy the space allocated and to maintainthe exhibition stand until 28/08/2015 from 1700 hours (EAT)
