As a founding member of the National Skills Academy for Retail, The Source has a fresh outlook on the retail sector, with the right knowledge and skills to deliver the best in retail and business training. At The Source we have a wide range of exciting features in our facilities including a mock shop and life-size store windows, giving students the opportunity to dress mannequins and design window displays and store layouts. We also organise field trips, work placements and guest speakers to make the courses fun and interactive. Based opposite Meadowhall Shopping Centre, The Source is in the perfect location for bus and tram links and there is free parking in the Meadowhall Centre. To find out more about our facilities, visit: www.thesourceacademy.co.uk This course is designed to give students a Level 2 qualification in Fashion Retail, providing the knowledge, skills and understanding required to gain employment, or progress to a Level 3 qualification. This qualification is unique within the sector and the course is assessed using a variety of methods which directly relate to the type of work students could obtain on completion of the course. The assessment approach ensures learners have a fulfilling experience in developing their personal attributes as well as the skills and knowledge to excel in the fashion industry and develop entrepreneurial talent. A career in retail represents a future of unlimited potential, responsibility and personal development. Students will receive instruction, guidance and encouragement to practise and develop the skills necessary to achieve the award. The course covers a wide range of subjects including customer service and selling, the fashion retail market place, introduction to visual merchandising, buying and merchandising for fashion retail, fashion trends and forecasting and market research and branding for retail. This is a one year full-time course (four days per week). On completion of this course you could progress to an apprenticeship or employment within the retail sector.

Progression Routes at The Source...

The BTEC in WorkSkills is a flexible qualification available at Level 2 which will enrich your curriculum at any time of the year. The course has an extensive range of units, giving students the opportunity to build their own qualification that caters to their needs.

This qualification is flexible and can be combined across several qualifications. Please contact us to discuss this further.

The Source Skills Academy prides itself on offering progression routes for students at various levels. Progression routes include Apprenticeships, further education and progression to University. To offer an alternative vocational route, The Source delivers a range of Apprenticeships in Retail, Business, Customer Service, Hospitality and Warehousing.

This course is delivered in three parts:

1) The Principal Learning Units in Retail Business

2) Level 3- IFS Diploma

3) Functional Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT

This is a two year full time course of study consisting of formal teaching and further commitment to learning which includes 10 days spent working with employers to gain relevant experience and skills. It is a course for students interested in working in Retail Sector. The course offers a start to a career within a variety of retail professions and will lead on to further higher level training and learning opportunities in an area which has grown extensively in recent years.

The Diploma is made up of 8 core Principal Learning units: Examining the World of Retail Developing Retail Channels Buying Practices of Retail Business Retail Supply Chain Management Retail Logistics Marketing in Retail Business Merchandising in Retail Business Visual Merchandising in Retail Business

Level 3 Diploma in Principal Studies In order to achieve the Advanced Diploma in Retail Business, it is necessary to undertake additional specialist learning. Part two of the Advanced Retail Business Diploma is the Diploma in Financial Studies. This element of the qualification enables learners to enhance their financial capability by helping them understand issues from perspectives beyond their own; including that of the providers of financial services and to appreciate the consequences of decisions and their impact upon personal financial footprints.

Functional skills Functional skills gives the opportunity to develop and practice skills in Maths, English and IT. These essential life skills are considered vital by employers and higher education establishments. Functional Maths and English involves applying Maths and English to everyday situations and the scenarios for both functional English and Maths are relevant and interesting.

On completion of the course you could progress to higher education. Alternatively, you could use your qualifications and experience gained on this course as a stepping-stone into employment in the Retail Business Industry. A career path based on this option would lead into professional work in areas such as Retail Management, Sales, Advertising & Marketing, Buying, Human Resources, Visual Merchandising, Administration and Customer Service. You should be interested in business, latest trends and developments within the industry, dealing with the public and be a good team player.
