High Combined Award - CCA LOVING CUP – offered by the Collie Club of America

One cup is awarded using scores from both Saturday and Sunday Trials. In calculating the winner of the High Combined Award, only qualifying scores count. A dog’s three best scores will be added together. Each score must be from a different course OR stock (e.g., A Sheep, A Ducks & B Sheep, OR A Sheep, A Ducks & B Ducks, etc.). Scores used will be weighted by level (80% Started, 90% Intermediate, 100% Advanced).

All trophies MUST be claimed the day of the trial.

I was once warned to be careful in naming my dogs, because they tend to live up to their names. In Forrest’s case, that turned out to be true. The movie

reviewer who described the Hollywood Forrest Gump as “honest, brave, and loyal with a heart of gold” could not have written a better description of my big black fluffy dog. I’ve noticed that many times when someone posts on some cyber-bulletin board about the passing of a loved pet that kind hearted well-wishers will respond with “Run free, Fluffy!”, hoping that grieving owners will find comfort in the image of their pal cavorting across some celestial field. That image of Forrest just doesn’t work for me. For the 13 years that we journeyed together, his one great wish was to always be as close

to me as he could get. He had no desire ever to “run free”. (Well, ok, there was that ONE time. Stupid deer! But Forrest deeply regretted that indiscretion.) In the house, he followed me from room to room, even when old joints and failing muscles made the trip from the living room to the kitchen and back a major effort. At night he arranged himself on the bed so as to maintain maximum contact with me – nice on cold winter’s nights, and really darned annoying in the heat of the summer. On walks he’d weave between my legs because leaning up against a single leg just wasn’t close enough for him. So yes, I like thinking “Run, Forrest, run!” But not running free. Running here, right along beside me. Right where he will always belong.
