IMPORTANT COURIER INFORMATION: All Courier submissions for the week of November 28 – December 4 need to be submitted to Bianca Williams at [email protected] no later than Monday, November 21 by 4PM!! The Courier will be distributed on Wednesday, November 23rd. DECORATING FOR THE HOLIDAYS: will begin December 1st! Staff will begin hanging wreaths and assembling trees one week after Thanksgiving. Staff will provide trees for the following areas: Clocktower, Auditorium, Dining, Security and Apartment entrances in addition to several trees throughout the health center. Residents are invited to join Bianca in decorating the large tree at the Clocktower from 1-2 PM on December 1st. Refreshments will be served! In addition, Resident Volunteers are also needed to decorate the Apartment entrance tree and the Auditorium tree. These trees will be assembled by close of business Thursday, December 1st and can be decorated on Friday the 2nd. If you are interested in helping, contact Bianca and she will assign you to a “tree trimming team” along with others. Collington will provide the decorations. Also, residents should not place personal decorations in the common spaces as Collington cannot be responsible should an item be damaged or lost. The Flower Committee will also be adding lovely arrangements around the community to enhance the festive holiday spirit of the community. COMPASSION & CHOICES PETITION SIGNING: The Collington C&C Action Team will submit a petition to the Maryland legislature, supporting the Medical Aid in Dying bill to come before it during the next session. We hope it will reflect the strong interest shown by many Collingtonians in supporting this movement, which is now legal in six states. Come to the CLOCK TOWER FOYER and add your name! VETERANS DAY APOLOGY FOR OMISSION: Reg Smith, U.S. Army WWII: Sept 1943 – Dec 1945. He served in Europe with 94th Infantry Division and landed at Utah Beach long after D-Day. In combat in Brittany by mid Sept, surrounding German pockets, submarine pens of French Atlantic coast cities of St. Nazaire and Lorient, under Gen Omar Bradley’s 12h Army Group. He joined Gen. George Patton’s 3rd Army on the Southern flank of the Bulgeand also fought five weeks against several German Infantry Panzer divisions in the Siegfried Line (Moselle Triangle). In Feb 1945 was evacuated with frostbite and spent two months at U.S. Army Hospital in Wales. Rejoined outfit near Dusseldorf; Division then moved to Russian zone border in Czechoslovakia.
