COLLINGWOOD NEWS 28 th June 2019 The week has ended with a double-bill assembly led by Reception and 5A. First of all, Reception entertained us first with the story of the Hungry Caterpillar in French (along with songs!) and then 5A gave us some food for thought with their group presentations based on environmental themes - deforestation, declining bee populations and over-fishing. After that Mr Brian Lay, Governor Emeritus, presented Year 6 with a departing gift of a thesaurus. Brian has done this now for several years for all our pupil leavers and it always provides a poignant memory for all of our 6A children before they come to the end of their time at Collingwood. The highlight of the week was of course our annual Sports Day at Walcountians. It was fantastic to see all the pupils competing in a range of races. Even though Drake were crowned champions on the day, all the houses performed with determination, skill and sportsmanship. The afternoon was capped off with great relay races, some very entertaining adult races and a fiercely competitive Tug of War. Enormous thanks to Mr Sitch for organising the whole day - a huge amount of preparation is required to make the day run as such a successful event. For our KS2 classes, this week has also been one of enterprise and entrepreneurship as each class business prepares for their sales at tomorrow's Summer Fair. Each business has invested money in products and will be keen to make as much profit as possible - do come along and visit each stall at the fair. We look forward to seeing many of you there tomorrow to enjoy the sun! COLLINGWOOD NEWS 28th

June 2019

The week has ended with a double-bill

assembly led by Reception and 5A. First of all,

Reception entertained us first with the story

of the Hungry Caterpillar in French (along

with songs!) and then 5A gave us some food

for thought with their group presentations

based on environmental themes -

deforestation, declining bee populations and

over-fishing.

After that Mr Brian Lay, Governor Emeritus,

presented Year 6 with a departing gift of a

thesaurus. Brian has done this now for several

years for all our pupil leavers and it always

provides a poignant memory for all of our 6A

children before they come to the end of their

time at Collingwood.

The highlight of the week was of course our

annual Sports Day at Walcountians. It was

fantastic to see all the pupils competing in a

range of races. Even though Drake were

crowned champions on the day, all the

houses performed with determination, skill

and sportsmanship. The afternoon was

capped off with great relay races, some very

entertaining adult races and a fiercely

competitive Tug of War. Enormous thanks to

Mr Sitch for organising the whole day - a huge

amount of preparation is required to make

the day run as such a successful event.

For our KS2 classes, this week has also been

one of enterprise and entrepreneurship as

each class business prepares for their sales at

tomorrow's Summer Fair. Each business has

invested money in products and will be keen

to make as much profit as possible - do come

along and visit each stall at the fair. We look

forward to seeing many of you there

tomorrow to enjoy the sun!

What is 'broth' another word

for? Is it true that too many

people all trying to do the same

thing at the same time can make

things worse? Can you think of

an example? Are there times

when co-operation is a good

thing? Can you think of your own

modern version of this old

proverb?

Another proverb for this week. Apparently by Jane Austen!

As our Collingwood Tree continues to grow, we will be developing

this analogy of a nurturing, safe habitat even further. The

woodland theme will form the basis for new class identities from

September - they will no longer be called 1A, 2A, etc, but will be

represented by forest creatures or native British trees.
