2 Introduction The first official update of Version 7 offers in addition to fixes and improvements, the Gamut Viewer which

allows checking the quality of profiles even before the first print. Also, the 1-Bit-TIFF-Input-Module was im-

plemented to create raster proofs from 1bit TIFF data.

Furthermore, a large number of new printers are now supported, for example the EPSON SureColor SC-S30600,

Roland FH-740 and a many other models of other vendors. Additionally the new measurement devices from

Barbieri and X-Rite, the SpectroPad and i1Pro2, can now be used.

Changes to 7.10 Build 4360 Because of longer loading times of jobs in 7.10 Build 4360, if a higher number of files had to be processed, the

7.10 Build 4369 is now available to solve this issue:

Furthermore, the following fixes and improvements are also included:

• New Printer Driver: Nyala (Cat. 3)

• Acuity Advance X2 HS and Acuity Advance HS: The print mode “Quality Smooth” is now available.

• Agfa Anapurna Drucker: Seeting up a destination path in the hotfolder did not work properly.

• Epson SureColor SC-S30600: The Non-HTM modes did not produce a correct output.

5 New Modules

5.1 1-bit-TIFF-Input-Module

The ColorGATE 1-Bit-TIFF-Input-Module provides a simple and reliable method for processing incoming 1-bit

TIFF-files for creating halftone proofs and de-screening of input data for form proofs (impositioning proofs). In

this way, documents can be tested completely prior to printing to avoid incorrect artwork. The 1-Bit-TIFF-

Input-Module is an ideal solution for customers in packaging industry, but also for pre-press workflows in other

areas.

Halftone Proofing

Using halftone proofing, original data for exposure, i.e. the input data will be printed in color on any printing

system (e.g. proof-printer) featuring the resolution of the final output document. 1BITM ensures retention of

best possible screening characteristic and structure, i.e. dot shape, screen ruling and angle. The printed half-

tone proof visualizes the screening characteristic due to the printing process deployed. In this way, the user

can see what the motif looks like before printing respective printing form production. In addition, typical er-

rors such as moiré, rosette effects and too small fonts and elements can be detected, even before starting the

complicated set up of the printing press and production of expensive artwork. Before using 1BITM, it was nec-

essary to screen data before halftone proofs production. Now, documents that have ripped once can be printed

on various printing systems to create a customized halftone proof for each printing system.

Descreening

By correct implementation of proof workflows (PGM), incoming data will be de-screened for production of

color-binding form proofs (impositioning proofs), which allows control of e.g. print page positioning, routing

margins, bleeds, and imposition before printing, in which the original screening characteristic is lost. Fields of

application are stand proofs as well as content proofs for control in terms of the correct content of the entire

color separations, and as well for color-accurate digital proofs that can be used as template for fine-tuning of

the printing press.

This module is available for Proofgate and Productionserver.

6 New Functions

6.1 Gamut Viewer

The new Gamut Viewer is integrated free of charge in Productionserver, Proofgate and Photogate.

• Quickly check integrity of newly created profiles

• Compare up to 5 individual profiles at a glance

• Mathematical comparison and analysis of two profiles

• Compare profile relations using different rendering intents

• Load measurement data or image files and compare colors and spectral data to the profiles to check if

image colors are in gamut

• 2D and 3D mode

The Gamut Viewer can be started from the Options menu and from the Linearization and Profiling

Assistant after profile calculation.

6.2 Confidence Strip Placement

The confidence strip can now be placed in multiple ways and its size and the distance to the job can be config-

ured.

6.3 Fill Single Copy to Page

"Fill Single Copy to Page" scales and crops the image to fit it to the size of the media. If AutoRotate is activat-

ed, the widest axis of the image is placed on the widest axis of the media.

6.4 Modifying the Rendering Intent in PDF files

A new option in the "Advanced Settings" of the "Color Management" tab allows changing how the rendering

intent of PDF objects is handled:

• "Use embedded": The rending intent of each object from the PDF is used.

• "Ignore embedded": The set rendering intent in the PDF is ignored and the one selected in the user inter-

face is used instead.

• "Blackpoint Compensation": If an object was set to "Relative Colorimetric" in the PDF, "Blackpoint Compen-

sation" is used for it. Objects with other rendering intents still use the "embedded" one.

6.5 Interpolation of Raster Files

Several kinds of interpolation are now available for halftone files (e.g. TIFF, JPEG). "Nearest Neighbour" is the

same method that was used before, but "Bilinear" and "Bicubic" provide much smoother edges when lower reso-

lution pictures are upscaled.
