Grounds Update
You may have seen these new additions to the walls outside some of the Year 1/2
classes. These are called sensory walls. Most children walk right by it and very much enjoy
the sensory input they receive from the different textures and colors. This kind of sensory
input can be very calming, allowing children to focus and attend to tasks or to relieve
stress or anxiety.
Curriculum Update
NAPLAN preparation
This year we have been selected to carry out NAPLAN online this year. The Year 3 & 5
students conducted a NAPLAN trial with IPads to ensure the technology and the system
across the state could cope with everyone completing the test at the same time. It gave students a
chance to have a practice run at the assessments and the online medium. We will send out some more
information to parents of students in Years 3 and 5 early term 2. More info can be found on https://
nap.edu.au/online-assessment
Please let your child’s teacher know if you want your child exempt from the 2019 NAPLAN and we will let
you know what you have to do to enable an exemption.
Wellbeing and Engagement Update
Colour Fun Run
Colour fun run occurred on Friday 22nd March. The weather was perfect and it was a fantastic fun event!
Great photos included in the newsletter. Thanks to staff and parents who helped with the event. Thanks
to students for participating and being such great sports. Well done on the fundraising efforts.
P-6 House Cross Country
Last Friday 29th March we had the P-6 House Cross Country. Thanks to Ric Thompson (PE Teacher) who
organized and ran the event. Another great whole school event where there were lots of feedback on what
a great day it was.
Sustainability Leaders Excursion to the Climate Change Forum
A fortnight ago Sustainability Leaders, Ms Parker and myself went to Point Lonsdale Primary School. The
purpose of our visit was to listen and talk about how to stop climate change. We mostly sat and listened
to Libby Coker giving tips about climate change and how we can stop it at home.
We asked questions like; Are we going to get solar panels for school sagain? Are we going to plant more
trees in places that need trees?
This was an amazing experience and I hope that we can do more stuff like this in the future.

Dell Dolphins taking out the title by ONE POINT. Every point counts and did so on Friday. The efforts of our students were very impressive. It is great to see people try their best. STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING FOR SPORTS ACADEMY Sports Academy students travelled to Barwon Heads last Wednesday to experience stand Up Paddleboarding. It was beautiful conditions and the students displayed our school values throughout the day. Although the final activity seemed to end up with Mr Thompson and Mr McCredden spending a lot of time in the water as the students targeted them and pushed off their boards. All in good fun. It was a nice touch that Kayla Booth was celebrating her birthday
too. The students applied themselves well and learned a lot about handling a Paddleboard. There was rapid improvement as the students experimented and applied the principals taught to us by our instructors. Big thanks goes out to Shaun from WSUP based at Barwon heads for his expert guidance!

As professional athletes, they look to constantly improve and understand that there are many ingredients that work together to ensure people are healthy. They discussed healthy eating, getting enough sleep, balancing screen time and recommended 60 minutes of activity per day for Year 3/4 students. It was a great session and the students were engaged through question and answer sessions, great discussion and some pre-recorded videos of players promoting healthy living.

JUST RIGHT ZONES
Every Classroom At CSPS Has A Just Right Zone! Did you know that you can find a Just Right Zone in every
classroom? The Just Right Zone is an area in your classroom
that you can go to if you don’t feel ‘just right’ for learning.
Maybe you are really tired and your body is running too slow or
maybe you are really hyper and your body is running too fast,
either way it may be difficult for you to focus and stay on task.
You can spend 5 minutes in the Just Right Zone to self-regulate.
Listen to music, do push ups, breathe deeply, fidget with a toy or
spin around in circles, whatever helps your body to return to a just
right state for focussed learning.
Check out the Just Right Zone in your classroom!
The Inclusion Support Team
The Road Home Project Bedding and Hygiene Appeal
Many people experiencing homelessness in Australia are consistently forced to go without essential hygiene products. To address this issue on a local level, "The Road Home" Project will support initiatives by the Geelong Period Project and the Barwon South West Homelessness Network to collect and distribute these items to those most in need.
This is where we need you support and donations! These include:
Toothbrushes and toothpaste Feminine Hygiene products Soap and Shampoo
Deodorant Sunscreen Socks and underwear Hand Sanitisers
Wet wipes Hair brushes and combs Tissues (small carry packs)
During cold months most of us have warm clothing, blankets and a fire or heater to keep us warm at night. Please spare a thought for those that are struggling, they have no warm clothes or blankets, some don't have bedding.
Items required include: Blankets Jackets Hats Socks New underwear Scarves
Any donations gratefully accepted and can be brought to the school office
to be collected by the end of May 2019.
MUSIC ACADEMY 2019 sees the first year of a CSPS Music Academy being offered for students in Years 5 and 6. So far we have had four rehearsals and the band is starting to sound great. The academy is made up of 8 singers, drums, bass, two guitars, keyboard and trombone. Due to the unique line up of musicians, and the skills they are demonstrating, the band is focusing on soul music and has started working on songs by Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye. The group is looking forward to live performances beginning in term two, both in school and within the wider community.
Just a reminder that the first rehearsal for term two is on the first day of term, Tuesday April 23rd.
