Duratec® is a super durable powder coating formulated with advanced polyesterresin technology, utilising high performance pigments for colour production,designed for architectural aluminium products. Duratec® finds its principaluse as a high quality, highly durable coating for aluminium joinery on high risebuildings, although it is also used in areas where the environment is moreaggressive than normal.

The recommendations for product specification are as follows:-

More than 25 years coating history of Duratec®maybe seen amongst the high rise buildings of theAuckland CBD. Duratec® may be seen on all sortsof buildings in all sorts of atmospheric environments.From Sydney to Singapore, Indonesia to Malaysia,fine examples of buildings with Duratec® coatedjoinery provide testament to Duratec’s durability.

Duratec® is available in 33 colours held in stock inNew Zealand. Duratec® may also be made to orderin a wide range of colours, with most of theDuralloy® colours featured in the Duralloy® colourguide able to be formulated in Duratec® andmanufactured for a specific project. Colours madeto order do require minimum volumes to bemanufactured.

Duratec® exceeds the international AAMA 2604specification and may be supported by aperformance warranty of 20 years film integrityand up to 15 years colour integrity.

We have now introduced the Intensity® range toour stock Duratec® Colours. This range is becomingincreasingly popular for contrast trims, in hospitalsand schools, where bright colours enhance theenvironment.

Seamless colour transitionComplement your choice of colours on windows and doors to any other colour you want. Long lasting coloursWhen you are choosing your colour it is important to remember that different colours and finishes will perform differently depending on the aspect and environment. You may want to consider, for example, lighter colours for locations exposed to high UV levels to get the best performance from your powder coated joinery.

Why powder coating?Aluminium is an excellent material for use in joinery and construction. But, while it is a naturally resilient surface, it still needs some protection from the elements.

There are several ways to protect architectural aluminium such as anodising and powder coating. Choosing a powder coated aluminium finish will give your project both a stylish and durable look.

A powder coat finish is also safe for the environment as well as being safe for those involved in its application. The application process is free of solvents and other chemicals.

Care and maintenance

Powder coated joineryLike any other painted surface, powder coated aluminium performs at its best when it is properly cared for.Keeping the surface free from pollutants and environmental contaminants will give you the maximum benefit and long lasting performance from your coated surface. This is especially true where the surface is in a protected area that doesn’t benefit from the natural cleaning properties of rainwater.

In normal urban environments, a gentle clean with a soft brush and mild detergent followed by a fresh water rinse every six months will keep your coating looking great for years. In areas of high pollution, such as industrial areas, geothermal areas or coastal environments, cleaning should occur every three months. In particularly hazardous locations such as beachfronts, severe marine environments or areas of high industrial pollution, cleaning on a monthly basis is recommended.

It is important to note that harsh chemicals and solvents can be harmful to a powder coated surface and their use is not recommended.

Anodised joineryAnodised aluminium joinery is not only attractive, but also offers a durable and tough wearing finish. Over time some deterioration of the anodic oxide coating can occur but mainly it is as a result of grime deposition and subsequent attack by moisture, particularly when it is contaminated with sulphur compounds. Regular cleaning is essential if the finish of anodised aluminium is to be preserved over a long period.

Anodised aluminium should be washed down with warm water and a mild soap solution. Fine brushes may be used to loosen attached dirt/grime - the use of anything stiffer or more abrasive may result in damage to the surface. Acid or alkali cleaners should not be used. Where greasy deposits or hard to remove grime is present, cleaning of the anodising may be by means of a soft cloth dipped in turpentine, followed by wiping with a dry rag. Make sure the solvent doesn’t come into contact with other parts of the window. It is essential to rinse thoroughly with water after cleaning, and then dry the glass to avoid any marks developing. In general the following programme is recommended:Rural: Every six months

Urban: Every three months

Industrial And Marine Environments: (within 1 km of the sea): Six monthly warm water detergent wash, as well as monthly cold water washing.

WarrantyColourScape® colour integrity of your powder coat is warranted for 10 years for Duralloy and 15 years for DuratecColourScape® powder coatings will maintain colour integrity for a minimum period of 10 years* from the date of application, when applied by Altus.**

ColourScape® film integrity powder coat is warranted for 15 years for Duralloy and 20 years for DuratecColourScape® powder coatings will not peel, crack, flake, or blister for a minimum period of 15 years from the date of application, when applied by Altus.** Instructions on how to use, handle and maintain ColourScape® powder coated aluminium joinery are on this brochure and available from your window and door manufacturer. These instructions must be followed if ColourScape® is to meet any quality or performance assurance, representation or assertion given in this brochure.

Neither Altus nor any of its suppliers will accept any liability for loss or damage caused by a failure to follow the current instructions on use, handling, installation and maintenance; provided that the content of this brochure does not affect any rights the consumer may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

Anoguard® is warranted for 10 yearsThe Altus Anoguard® process adheres to rigorous international performance standards. Altus offers a 10 year warranty on all Anoguard® joinery with a film thickness of 20 - 25 microns. Instructions on how to maintain anodised aluminium are on this brochure and available from Altus or any of its fabricators. These instructions must be followed if any anodised joinery is to meet any quality or performance assurance, representation or assertion given in this brochure.
