Tena koutou Hola Konnichiwa BonjourNi hao Privet! Greetings

Strategic planning is the process by which we identify our aims and set about, in a systematic way, toachieve them. Russell Street Schools last strategic plan covered the period 2 008-2010. All goals in thisplan were either fully completed or changed through annual review of the schools operations. The current strategic plan (2011 -2013) document shows how this Board of Trustees is giving effect tothe National Education Guidelines , through policies, plans and programmes, including those forcurriculum, assessment and staff professional development. In preparing our current strategic plan, the Board has been mindful of the aspirations of the communitythis school serves. Parents, staff, whanau, students and other stakeholders have been able to sharetheir views as to the direction the school should be heading through community meetings, questionnaires, informal sharing and a combined charter/strategic planning workshop.

The community holds a strong vision for the future of the children at Russell Street School. Thecommunity sees as vital (and as the foundation for learning to occur) the development of a core set ofvalues. The community is proud of the school and would like to see it continue on the leading edge. In movingforward, the school openly embraces change and actively encourages risk taking and innovationamong its staff and students. The Board and community consider the staff to be the most importantlearning tool and activ ely support them as learners and leaders. There are many important strategic decisions that have been made in the formulation of this plan. Some involve swift action and others will require considerable, on goingaction and focus. And indeed, after a peri od of time (and review) it may be thatthere are changes to this plan. What is required now (and is being planned for)is coordinated, facilitated action to achieve these goals.

    Regards to you all,

    David ReardonPrincipal

Enrolment at RSS:A change in legislation earlier in the year added anothercategory to the enrolment scheme legislation. This newcategory applies to any applicant who is a child of aformer student of the school (Ca tegory 4). If the applicantis in-zone then a place is guaranteed regardless. Pleasenote however, it doesnt guarantee a place if the applicant

is out of zone, it just puts them higher up the priority list.An updated copy of the enrolment scheme can be foundby visiting the following website page:http://www.russellst.school.nz/?page_id=3 or by contactingthe office.

The RSS student roll continues to be full, with a waitinglist. There have been no out of zone enrolments for sometime and a number of families have moved in zone(without any corresponding loss) , adding further pressureto the roll. If youre new to the area and have pre -schoolage children it is very likely well meet soon. To assist uswith planning, and to avoid over -crowding, it is very helpful
