    DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS MISSION STATEMENT

    The Mission of Comal Independent School District is to provide extensive learning

    opportunities for all students to ensure they become contributing members of our

    society.

    I. We will demonstrate a genuine concern for the personal growth and maturity of

    our student-athletes.

    A. Our athletic family will be based upon honesty, trust, care, respect,

    accountability and enthusiasm.

    B. We will create a vision for success and help our student-athletes work to

    achieve it.

    C. Our student-athletes will be prepared for life after

    High school and leave our program as stronger people.

    II. We will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and a strong work ethic in all

    sports at all levels to further our goal of having a total program.

    A. Commitment and work will be evident in all phases of our program

    all year.

    PHILOSOPHY

    The Comal I.S.D. Athletic Program promotes the physical, mental, moral and social well-

    being of students. The athletic program is an integral part of the total educational

    process.

    In the business of education, students are our products. They will be only as good as we

    make them. If we fail, then an entire generation will fail. Our job as professional

    educators is to prepare the students so that they can become self-supporting members of

    society.

    Comal I.S.D will provide its young men and women with competitive, varied and diversified

    programs, designed not only to teach athletic skills but to also instill good character

    and teach sound values.

    JOB DESCRIPTIONS

    The following job descriptions have been outlined to help the individual coach understand

    and better perform his/her duties and responsibilities. These job descriptions are not intended to

    be all-inclusive, but instead, a clarification of responsibilities in some areas.

    All athletic personnel are expected to perform other duties from time to time that may be

    assigned by the Athletic Director either for their program or promotion of the overall

    athletic program. These assignments would include in-service clinics, track meets, tournaments

    or games, scouting, or other duties deemed necessary.

    Director of Athletics

    Responsible for:

    Supervision and evaluation of all district athletic coordinators and other personnel

    assigned to the department.

    Ensure that extracurricular athletics are supportive of the instructional goals and

    objectives of the district and the attainment of the campus performance objectives

    (academic excellence indicators).

    Administer the insurance program covering school athletes and assume responsibility

    for all processing of reports and claims.

    ProviDe leaDershiP in DeveloPinG Goals anD obJectives for the Districts athletic

    program.

    Develop and place into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the

    conduct of athletic events.

    Hire officials, medical care and policemen as required, and assume general

    responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.

    Provide leadership in the selection, assignment and evaluation of athletic coaches

    and staff members.

    Assume responsibility for inservice training for the coaches of each sport in matters of

    coaching techniques, skills and district and U.I.L. policies and regulations.

    Prepare and administer the athletic program budget.

    Requisition, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms and

    equipment for athletic programs.

    Supervise all ticket sales and fund-raising events connected with the athletic

    program, and assume responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies

    involved.

    Monitor the condition of facilities and make recommendations to the Superintendent.

    Work to see that district rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is

    appropriate and equitable.

    Ensure that extracurricular athletics are effective in supporting the teaching and

    learning process.

    Develop and communicate to staff, students and parents, athletic guidelines for

    student conduct.

    Continue to participate in professional development activities.

    Provide leadership in professional growth and development by conducting oneself in

    an ethical and professional manner.

    Support and assist campus leadership in achieving performance objectives related to
