WHY PYROGUARD?
CUTTING FACILITIES IN-HOUSE TESTING FACILITIES
One of the major benefits to Pyroguard’s research and development efforts is the fire test furnace located on the French site.
The furnace is used by Pyroguard’s dedicated Research & Development team for our in-house product development programme and to maintain high standards of quality control.
For customers not operating their own cutting facilities, but still wishing to work with Pyroguard Rapide and Pyroguard Rapide Plus, Pyroguard offers a bespoke cutting service.
In-house cutting facilities with table cutting and saws are available, which operate on very short lead times.
Pyroguard’s skilled and experienced cutting team offers custom shapes, waterjet cutting, polished edges, arrised edges.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
From front-facing technical support to our highly qualified R&D scientists, our teams are industry-leading. Our products are certified to the most stringent technical standards and supported by extensive technical publications.
Our dedicated specification teams are always available to provide you with the advice, technical and regulatory information they require, and are happy to consult with you at any stage of your project, even if it’s just an initial enquiry.
All Pyroguard products are CE or UL marked, which means they comply with the requirements for local health, safety and environmental protection legislation.
In addition, the performance of Pyroguard products is independently tested and certified by Certfire, BM Trada, BRE, Efectis France, Efectis Nederland and TUV Rheinland.
Other certifications include CEKAL certification for IGU manufacturing and ISO 9001 Quality Management certified by BSI.

ADVANCED DESIGN
In terms of design options, frit types, screen print, digital print or vinyl graphics can all be used on counterpanes to create privacy bands, patterns or logos. Digital printing, frit and screen printing are commonly used in our projects. Acid etching or sandblasting are also options to create beautiful privacy glass while maintaining high light transmission.
SECURITY
Pyroguard glass can provide attack protection (EN356). Specialist counterpane options such as BR4NS for blast and bullet resistance (EN1063) are also available. This makes Pyroguard highly suitable for use in detention centres, mental healthcare institutions, or buildings at risk of attack.
SWITCHABLE GLASS
With an increasing demand for glass which balances privacy and light transmission, Pyroguard can offer Switchable Glass to fulfil this requirement. Switchable Glass, also known as smart glass, switches from frosted to clear at the flick of a switch. A simple ON-OFF mode switch-es the glass from being clear (transparent) to frosted (opaque). In its frosted state the film acts as an electronic blind providing privacy and security for any glass, window or partition.
BLINDS
Fire resistant glass with integrated blinds is a new development on the market. This configuration allows the combination of fire protection along with the highest levels of hygiene. This is invaluable for applications in healthcare, education, or commercial buildings. Our test evidence allows interstitial blinds to be incorporated in our IGUs.
29
EXTENDED PERFORMANCE
IMPACT ACOUSTIC
Fire glass panes alone have a good level of sound reduction but, as designs become more ambitious, acoustic requirements call for IGUs that include a laminated acoustic counterpane.
These counterpanes can be offered with a wide range of performance to meet high acoustic requirements for buildings, including minimising intrusive urban sound pollution, ambient noise and reverberation.
All of our fire rated glass is rigorously tested against soft body impact, and certified to the EN 12600 standard.
This standard provides safety recommendations for the vertical use of glass in locations likely to be subject to accidental human impact. The recommendations are intended to reduce impact related injuries and in particular the risk of cutting and piercing injuries.
Combining counterpanes with Pyroguard fire glass in your building specification also helps achieve a high BREEAM rating. BREEAM is the world’s foremost environmental assessment system for buildings, and sets the standard for energy efficiency and the health and well-being of a building’s users. BREEAM credits are awarded for reduction of CO emissions, insulation, lighting, glare control, thermal comfort and acoustic performance amongst others, all of which Pyroguard glass achieves.
EFFICIENCY
THERMAL INSULATION AND SOLAR CONTROL
In an era of increasing environmental awareness, green design elements are more in demand than ever before. Low emissivity glass means that IGUs comply with required standards for the conservation of heat.
While a typical, air-filled double-glazed window might have a U-value of over 5, because of our flexibility for counterpanes, Pyroguard IGUs when used in conjunction with appropriate counterpanes can offer U-values as low as 1 or below – good news for energy expenditure and your overall carbon footprint.
28
EXTENDED PERFORMANCEPyroguard offers optional extended performance characteristics to meet the most demanding project requirements in terms of specification, design and functionality.
