o Combustion o Synthesis (A + B ---> AB)o Decomposition (AB ---> A + B)o Single Displacement (A + BC ---> AC+B)o Double Displacement (AB + CD ---> AD + CB)o Acid-Base (HA + BOH ---> H2O + BA)
Six types of Chemical Reactions

o Combustion or burning is the sequence of exothermic chemical reactions between a fuel and an oxidant associated with the production of heat.

Combustion Reaction
o The sides of a triangle are used to represent the three factors (oxygen, heat, fuel) needed for combustion and flame production; removal of any of the three factors causes flame production to cease.

Fire Triangle
o The energy that an atomic system must acquire before a process such as a reaction can occur.

o Without heat, a fire cannot begin, and it cannot continue. Heat can be removed by the application of a substance which reduces the amount of heat available to the fire reaction. Also, heat is one of the elements on the Fire Triangle.

o The cooktop of your stove is an example of the fire triangle because it needs all the elements that the fire triangle has. (heat, fuel, and oxygen)

o An engine in which the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer usually air.

o It works with mobile equipment, it can provide high power-to-weight ratios together with excellent fuel energy density
How does it work?

o The NASCAR engines have radical cam profiles, which open the intake valves much earlier and keep them open longer. It allows more air to be packed into the cylinders, especially at high speeds.
o Very low restriction, and there are no mufflers or converters to slow the exhaust down either.
o They have carburetors that can let in volumes of air and fuel.

o In vehicle racing, nitrous oxide allows the engine to burn more fuel and air, making a more powerful combustion.
o It delivers more oxygen than atmospheric air by breaking down at elevated temperatures.
o Nitrous oxide is sometimes injected into the intake manifold, where other systems directly inject right before the cylinder to increase power.

o NASCAR has suspended driver Carl Long for the next 12 Sprint Cup races and fined crew chief Charles Swing $200,000, the largest penalty in the sport's history. Swing also was suspended until Aug. 18 for using an engine that was too big for NASCAR's specifications at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
