Venue: Inishowen Maritime Museum & PlanetariumDate: September 21st Time: 11.00Opening by: The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council,
Cllr Seamus O’ Domhnaill.
Special guest Malachy Doyle will read from his book Molly and the Stormy Sea, an enchanting fable about faith, sacrifice and hope, featuring wonderful illustrations from Andrew Whitson.
Malachy has published books for children of all ages as well as teenagers. He draws on his childhood in Ireland, his children’s childhood in Wales, from his favourite folk tales, but especially from his own thoughts for the inspiration for his stories. His best known picture books include The Dancing Tiger, Big Pig, Hungry! Hungry! Hungry!, and recently published books Cinderfella and Ootch Cootch.
The Salty Seadogs will come ashore for the launch and provide some slapstick comedy entertainment. This gruesome twosome will stop at nothing to get a hearty laugh, Just don`t let them talk you into taking a long walk off a short plank!

Wainfest Right To Read with Mary Roche
Pre-Festival Events
Getting children off to a great start: talking and thinking about picturebooks in the early years.
In this multimedia presentation Mary will explain how parents, early educators and junior school teachers can use picturebooks for readalouds at individual level, small group and whole class level. Research shows that readalouds develop stronger vocabulary, build connections between the spoken and written word, develop visual literacy, increase attention span, provide a safe way of exploring strong emotions, develop cognition, and promote bonding and relationships - as well as providing pleasure and fun for all.
Bookworm Babies 5th Birthday Celebration
Our Bookworm Babies are celebrating their 5th birthday during Wainfest 2018. Please help us mark this special occasion by coming along to our birthday party. Since its launch by Dr. Mary Roche during Wainfest 2013, Bookworm Babies has gone from strength to strength, and Dr. Roche will be back to help us celebrate. Bookworm Babies is an initiative of the Library Service, Health Promotion and Improvement, and Lifestart to promote the importance of reading with young children to their parents/guardians.

Jeramee, Hartleby agus Oooglemore – Dramaíocht
Tá Jeramee, Hartleby agus Ooglemore cois trá. Tá go leor ag tarlú – caitheann Hartleby go leor ama ag tabhairt orduithe agus é ag iarraidh an áit is fearr ar an trá a aimsiú. Tosaíonn Oooglemore ag damhsa agus ag déanamh gaisce ach buaileann sé an liathróid go róchrua, cailleann sé é agus milleann sé an cluiche. Imíonn Hartleby leis agus é crosta. Cuireann Jeramee gach rud ina cheart arís.
Baineann Jeramee, Hartleby agus Oooglemore sásamh agus só as a soineantacht álainn agus as a n-amaideacht aoibhinn féin. Tagann an triúr seole chéile agus neart le rá acu ach gan ach trí fhocal acu lena rá.

Donegal and Bluestacks Festival Carnival Parade
Fionn Uisce - A Carnival Celebration of Ballyshannon’s Clear Water Heritage.
To mark European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, this year’s Carnival Project takes its inspiration from Ballyshannon’s natural and built heritage. Specifically, the clear waters of the Erne River that define the town and the ESB’s Kathleen’s Fall’s hydro electric power station.
On Carnival Night itself, the streets of Ballyshannon will be brought to life with some very special theatrical and musical performances.
The Carnival Finalé, which is best viewed from the area of William Allingham Bridge, will feature a suitably evocative fire sculpture by LUXe landscape theatre and a special lighting-up of the Kathleen’s Falls hydro electric power station, courtesy of the ESB.
