March 29–April 4: Day 1 (Christ’s Last Week)

Palm Sunday – The Triumphal Entry

Christ humbly entered the city of Jerusalem and the people celebrated by waving palm branches and shouting

“Hosanna!” Today, when temples are dedicated, we wave white handkerchiefs above our heads and shout

“Hosanna!” This reminds us to welcome Jesus into our lives just as the people in Jerusalem did long ago.

Instructions: Write blessings you have received from God on the palm branch leaves.

Cleansing Monday – Sanctifying the Temple

Christ was very disappointed that individuals were using the temple for unrighteous purposes, so he cast those

individuals out to keep the temple a holy place. Just as the temple needed to be cleansed so that the Spirit

could dwell there; we need to be cleansed so that we can be worthy of the Spirit of the Lord. Christ provides

us with that cleansing power as we turn to Him.

Instructions: Search for the words below that will remind us of the temple and the blessings that can be found

therein.

Parable Tuesday – Teaching the Disciples

“Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand.” Christ taught several parables

when He walked the Earth. Parables involve us in the learning process and help build a stronger and

deeper testimony of Christ and His gospel.

Instructions: Read the scriptures below and match them with the parable that is taught.

Betrayal Wednesday – Offering and Receiving Forgiveness

Jesus was betrayed by someone very close to Him that was supposed to be his friend. Jesus had

every right to seek revenge, but He chose to forgive instead. We will be hurt by others in life. We

can choose to follow Jesus and forgive or we can become bitter and angry.

Instructions: Decode the message below to learn who betrayed Jesus and how much money he

received to betray Jesus.

March 29–April 4: Day 5 (Christ’s Last Week)

Last Supper Thursday – The First Sacrament

Jesus Christ instituted the first sacrament after sharing a Passover dinner with His Apostles.

(Read about the first Passover in Exodus 7-12.) Later that same night, Christ went to the Garden

of Gethsemane and suffered for the sins and sorrows of mankind. Partaking of the Sacrament

each Sunday helps us remember Jesus and what He did and continues to do for us.

Instructions: Listen to “Where can I turn for peace?” and fill in the words for the 3rd verse. Sing

the song together as a family.

Good Friday – Jesus’ Sacrifice

Jesus was crucified on a Friday. “Good” in English can mean holy, so we celebrate Good Friday

because everything wonderful and holy that we have in our lives comes because of Jesus Christ.

Salvation Saturday – Christ in the Spirit World

Christ’s spirit went to the spirit world where He was greeted by a large multitude of people who had

been waiting for Him. There were spirits who knew about Christ on this Earth and served Him, but

there were many spirits that didn’t have an opportunity to learn about Christ. Christ organized

missionary work in the spirit world and we do work for the dead in holy temples.

Instructions: Complete your own family tree below to learn more about your family history and the

missionary and temple work that still needs to be done. Draw or paste actual pictures in the spaces

provided. Reference D&C 138.

Easter Sunday – Life After Death

On Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene came to the sepulchre and found that the stone had been

taken away. The tomb was empty because Christ had risen. Easter is a time to celebrate the Risen

Lord and because He rose, we will all be resurrected. So, as you celebrate Easter this year and look

for Easter eggs, don’t forget to seek and find the One who gave all so that we could live again.

Instructions: In the first box, draw a picture of how Christ’s resurrection has changed your life. In

the second box, draw a picture of something you have learned this week as you have studied more

about the last week of Christ’s life.

“Things of the Earth”

Instructions: In D&C 30:1-4, David Whitmer is chastened for failing to follow the Lord. David was

more concerned about what the world thought instead of what God thought. Read those verses

together and answers the questions found below.

What are some “things of the earth” that can distract us from following Jesus Christ? (Use pictures or

words to answer the question.)

What are some things you can do to keep your focus on Christ instead of less important things? (Use

pictures or words to answer the question.)

Guess Who?

Instructions: In D&C 31, Joseph Smith receives a revelation for a specific individual. Read the clues below

to learn more about this man and write his name in the blanks provided.

• He was born in Massachusetts in 1799.

• He didn’t like any of the churches at the time, so he didn’t go to any of them.

• Him and his family learned about the restored church in 1830, moved to

Palmyra in the Fall and were baptized.

• He was the first president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in the

Church’s history.

• He was a very strong president who held the majority of the quorum together

despite hardship.

• In October of 1838, he withdrew from the Church because he had become

critical of Joseph Smith.

Instructions: In D&C 30-36, we meet many new people and several of them are called to be

missionaries. Complete the word search below to learn the names of these men. Take this a step

further by picking one of them and learning more about them. This can be done individually or

as a family. You could even do little presentations for one another.

Preparing to Be a Missionary

Instructions: In D&C 33:8-10, we learn about some of the ways the Lord will help us as we are willing

to open our mouths and be missionaries. Being a missionary doesn’t just happen one day. It is

something we should be preparing for right now. What are some ways that we can prepare even though

we are young? Brainstorm with a sibling or parent and draw a picture of 2 things you can do now to

prepare to be a missionary.

A Sure Foundation

Instructions: As we build our lives on Christ, we will be able to withstand the storms that come our way in

this mortal life. In D&C 33:12-17, we are given several suggestions of how we can build our lives on

Christ. Those verses are shown below. Read through them individually or together and highlight all the

things that will help you build a sure foundation on Christ.

12. Behold, verily, verily, I

say unto you, this is my

gospel; and remember that

they shall have faith in me

or they can in nowise be

saved;

13. And upon this rock I

will build my church; yea,

upon this rock ye are built,

and if ye continue, the

gates of hell shall not

prevail against you.

14. And ye shall remember

the church articles and

covenants to keep them.

15. And whoso having faith

you shall confirm in my

church, by the laying on

of the hands, and I will

bestow the gift of the Holy

Ghost upon them.

16. And the Book of

Mormon and the holy

scriptures are given of me

for your instruction; and

the power of my Spirit

quickeneth all things.

17. Wherefore, be faithful,

praying always, having

your lamps trimmed and

burning, and oil with you,

that you may be ready at

the coming of the

Bridegroom.

Instructions: In D&C 38:24-27, the Lord teaches us how important it is to be unified. Read the verses

individually or together. In the space below, write any words that stand out to you. Are there any words that

are repeated? Why do you think that the Lord repeated these words? For young kids, it might be easier to do

this as a group and write answers on a whiteboard so that everyone can see them.

Being the New Kid

Instructions: Yesterday we talked about unity and how God wants us to be unified. Have you

ever felt left out of a situation? You wanted to be involved, but you just weren’t sure what to do.

Below are a few situations where you or someone else might feel left out. Role play with a

parent or sibling how you could treat someone in one of these situations. You could do good and

bad responses if you wanted to role play both sides. These are just ideas to get you going. Feel

free to add in any situations that apply to you and your family. Reference D&C 38:24-27.

James Covel – Keeping Our Promises

Instructions: In D&C 39 & 40, we learn a little bit about a man name James Covel. He was a

Methodist preacher who showed a fleeing interest in the church. If you want to know more of his

story, type “James Covel” in on the Church website and there will be more history about him.

Answer the questions in the boxes below to learn more about the importance of keeping promises.

What did James Covel promise to do? Why didn’t he keep his promise? Look in D&C 40 to

find answers. (Section Headings in D&C 39-40 are helpful as well.)

What are some fears or “cares of the world” that could keep you from keeping your promises?

I am a Disciple of Jesus Christ

Instructions: In D&C 41:5, we learn how we can be better disciples. A disciple is an individual who listens

to Christ and obeys Him. As we follow and obey Christ’s words, we will make it through the maze of life.

When we choose to disobey, we hit dead ends and lose our way. Find your way through the maze to the

Celestial Kingdom as you choose to follow Jesus.

Instructions: In D&C 42:38, Jesus teaches how important to serve others. When we are serving

others, we are serving Christ. In the space provided below, draw a picture of how you could serve

Instructions: In D&C 43:1-7, we learn that the prophet is the only person on the earth that can

receive revelation for the church as a whole. Recently, we had General Conference and the

prophet spoke to us. Listen or read one of the talks he gave and use the space below to write or

draw a picture of something he asked you to do? How will you strive to do that thing this week?

Review of Doctrine & Covenants 1-44 & JSH

Instructions: Below are several questions from what we have studied so far in the D&C. The scripture the

answer is found in is beside the question. You could play this as a game and have two teams where the

child or parent writes the response on a white board and they hold it up as fast as they can. The first team

to hold up the correct answer gets a point. You can do the review individually and write the answers in the

space provided below. There are several different options, do what works best for your family.

1. Who is James Covel (D&C 39-40, Section Headings)
