TRANSCRIPT
As we near the end of our first year we could not be more proud of what our very first freshman class has accomplished!
Our students completed 2,000 hours of service this
year at local elementary schools and spending their Saturdays at Via West in Cupertino.
Our Vision is Simple: We are men and women, for others who work, learn, lead and succeed.
The average Cristo Rey student grew 1.5 grade levels in both Math and English this year.
Grade level growth
According to our tri-annual corporate spon-sor survey, 97%
of our students “Exceed or Meet Expectations” in the work place.

Come for a tour and meet our students
Taking the helm as Principal of Cristo Rey, my main focus has been to fulfill our vision to create men and women, who work, learn, lead and succeed. This feat requires most of my attention to be direct-ed toward leading our wonderful team and supporting their
efforts on creating the framework that assures our students will make great academic strides. As you will see throughout this newsletter, the results are inspiring!
The icing on the cake is the major recognition and attention Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit has received from both local and national groups, such as the Lexington Institute, in addition to being selected by Silicon Valley Schools as a grantee, for being trailblazers in Blended Learning. We have also hosted visits with the Philanthropy Roundtable, the Emerson Collec-tive, and StartUp Education. Collaborations with organizations such as these allow us to share successful strategies and initiatives.
It is hard to believe that we are almost through our last trimester. While Spring Fever is in the air, our students remain steadfast in their commitment to finish out the school year strong. We have implemented a no-opt-out homework policy and strengthened our support staff, and the results are impressive. At the end of the first grading period, only 28% of students had a 3.0 or higher. Now, 65% of our students have a 3.0 or higher. Our students’ commitment and ca-pabilities to adapt to a college prep environment is even more evident, based on the statistics noted below, as our numbers surpass national averages.
With 91% of our incoming freshman class reg-istered for the 2015-16 school year, and 100% of our current freshman class making gains, we are confident that next year’s trajectory toward success is mighty! We invite you to visit Cristo Rey to meet our amazing students and staff, and experience the wonder of Cristo Rey for yourself.
Thank you for your continued support,
Joe Albers Principal

Cristo Rey Awarded $700,000 Grant from Silicon Schools
As I take in the sights of Cristo Rey San José Je-suit High School, I am amazed at all that has happened in less than two years. We are up, running and ready to take in our second class of
students. Our staff and teachers are dedicated and the students hard working. At the same time, I am humbled by all the support we have received from those who believe in our kids and this project. First and foremost I have to thank John Sobrato and B.J. Cassin for their leadership as Co-chairs of our board. They are both committed with hands-on dedication to this project. They support me and the staff and are role models for their financial commitment to the fundraising needs of the school. The entire board of directors are committed to our mission of providing a rigorous four year education to underserved kids.
We are also blessed with the 28 job sponsors in our Corporate Work Study Program. As you know, this program is integral to the Cristo Rey Model of Schools. Our students, who are 14 or 15 years old, are given amazing opportunities to work in real jobs and by the end of the school year will have earned more than $800,000 to help cover the costs of their education.
If you have donated to us already, I say thank you and please consider another gift. If you have not yet made an investment in our kids and this amazing project, wait no longer! The work program only covers about 40% of our operating costs. We offer tours of the school if you would like firsthand experiences of our kids and buildings. Let me know!
Blessings on you and yours.
Father Peter Pabst, S.J. School President
We are proud to announce that Cristro Rey has been approved for a $700,000 grant from Silicon Schools. Over the next three years, we will receive funding from Silicon Schools to continually improve our blended learning model for which we were originally recognized. Through this partnership, we hope to not only make an impact on our own students, but also be able to share our knowledge with other schools and help to change
the face of quality, individualized education. We are so grateful for this opportunity, and would like to thank Silicon Schools for recognizing our potential. Many thanks as well to our principal, Joe Albers, for working diligently to receive this grant.
DID YOU KNOW? Our students have grown 4x the national average for expected growth in reading this year.
“I want to thank you for the time you have given out of your job to help me with my learning expe-riences. I am very grateful to be working at Adobe. My first day at Adobe you greeted me with open arms, and you invited me to really have a hands-on experience in learning. There would be a book bigger than a dictionary with a list of things you have taught me that I am grateful for. All my experiences at Adobe have been extraordinary and I can’t wait to see what there is to come in the future.” -- Hector N.
“I’d like to thank you for every-thing that you have done for the Cristo Rey team and me. You show us endless support and create a positive atmosphere in the office. You have inspired me in many ways by your encouraging words and trust that you show us every day that we are there. You help us grow into capable employees and I cannot thank you enough for that. The best thing at Cisco, for me, is being able to socialize with adults comfortably and to actually get the opportunity to be relied on as an employee at a worldwide company. Thank you again for everything that you do to help me flourish at Cisco. I am real-ly grateful to have you as a partner and a friend.” -- Kaela Q.
“I want to thank you for all you have done for me and taught me, and for all of your support. I am grateful to be working with you all. You made a huge impact in my life and have opened so many doors for me that can lead me to greater things in life. Being in a profession-al work place actually made me feel important. I also enjoyed having a hard time because with all those stumbles and falls I learned and I was able to do more than expected. Thank you once again for all of your support and effort.” -- Gloria S.
Invest in our future by investing in theirs! As we look forward to serving an additional 130 students for the 2015-2016 year, we are in need of more corporate sponsors dedicated to shaping futures and creating opportunities.

Student, Juan Rodriguez, was nominated for the “Volunteer of the Year” award for his work with Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County.
Juan works with Robert Yabes in the Immigration Legal Services and has been working with families to set up consultations with immigration lawyers. These families are grateful for Juan’s kindness, respect, and positive attitude. Mr. Yabes nominated Juan for “Volunteer of the Year” to acknowledge his hard work. He was excited to meet and have his picture taken with Greg Kepferle, the CEO of Catholic Charities!
Juan, one day, hopes to become an immigration lawyer because of his experiences at Catholic Charities.
Cisco Systems has gone above and beyond as a sponsor for our students. They have two teams of students working for Cisco in the IT and Product Opera-tions departments providing virtual, logis-tical, and administrative assistance to five Cisco IT Managers across the globe, along with their IT Cohort sessions.
Cisco has also provided many opportu-nities to introduce the students to the career possibilities offered in Silicon Valley. The IT team invited the Cristo Rey students to attend the HITEC conference (Hispanic IT Executive Council), where
the students were able to meet and learn from a panel of executives from compa-nies around the valley. The students’ su-pervisors set up informational interviews for the students with Cisco employees along with Cisco’s professional coach to help each develop and plan their college and career goals.
At the end of the school year, the students will be presenting their journey projects to a group of Cisco executives including Randy Pond, SVP of Opera-tions, Guillermo Diaz, Sr. VP of IT and Ana Corrales, Sr. VP of Product Opera-tions, among others.
