PURELY AMAZING!It has been a special month for many students at PURE Academy. Perhaps one of the busiest weekends on record saw 7 dance teams competing at the Capitol Theatre and 3 Triple Threat teams performing “Willy Wonka” at Chatham Christian secondary school all on the same weekend.

Congratulations to all those involved in both of these fantastic events. Willy Wonka was an awesome show our Dance teams performed wonderfully as well.

At the end of the Chatham Dance competition the overall major awards were presented to the top scores in each category of dance and PURE pulled off first place honours in 8 different categories of dance. Ad-ditionally, PURE swept the podium winning the top 3 overall High scores & cash awards for their perfor-mances “Somebody to Love” ,“Yummy” & that sassy number “That’s not My Name!”

PURE coach Brittany Meechum’s Novice Dance team also won 1st place overall for “Dynomite break your heart!”

Candice Willmore, PURE’s costume designer won the overall Top Costume award for the weekend - acknowl-edging PURE’s “Alice” performance as having the best costumes out of the 249 routines.

Holly Holmes, Jenna Charron & Charlene Wong all won top honours for their choreography skills as well.

Perhaps the most impressive part of the weekend for me was being able to witness all of the exceptional re-lationships that exist amongst the students at PURE. It was so refreshing to see our teams cheer together before they took the stage or share a moment prior to performing at the capitol.

The dedication by both the staff and the students at PURE was overwhelming evident in April! Well done !

WILLY WONKA JUNIOR SHOW!The Creative Team behind the triple threat program would like to extend a heart-felt ‘thank you’ to all those who helped give Willy Wonka Jr. a successful and memorable run. come together to make this production possible. Without the hard work, passion and support of all of those who see the immense potential of the creative arts in our world, none of this would be possible. Just as Mr. Wonka sings it best, ‘Want to change the world? There’s nothing to it!’

Wonderful job cast and crew! You have made us so proud!

SUMMER ANd FALL REGIStRAtIONOnce again, we will be offering an entire summer packed with fun camps, a variety of summer night classes, and of course next year’s Fall Programming.

You can register for summer and fall classes beginning May 16 by registering on-line or at PURE Academy. IF YOU REGISTER BY JUNE 30th THE $25 REGISTRATION FEE IS WAIVED! If you register before July 1st the Registration Fee is waived! As in previous years, instructors will be pro-viding “Next Step” reports. These reports will help you de-termine what classes you would like to register your child for next year.

Coming this fall, watch for all new programs such as a PURE Improv Team, Adult Heels Class, Indie Artist Solo workshopping class, Pre-Competitive Technique Training and more! Information will be made available soon, so stay tuned.

SAvE tHE dAtES: JUNE YEAR ENd REcItALSWe’re getting ready for Year End Recitals! Each show will include Dance, Music and Drama Program performances.

Please mark these dates in your calendar:

Tuesday June 7th, Primary Dress Rehearsal Wednesday June 8th, Junior Dress Rehearsal Thursday June 9th, Senior Dress Rehearsal Friday June 10th, Evening, Junior Show Saturday June 11th, Matinee, Primary Show Saturday June 11th, Evening, Senior Show

Detailed literature, including what show your child is in, times of shows and rehearsals, and so much more, coming early May.

NEXT STEP FORMS - LEaRNiNg ThE aBC’S BEFORE yOu LEaRN TO wRiTEThis month, you can expect to receive your Next Step forms from your teachers. Next steps are your teachers recommendations for where your child should be placed the next year. Teachers spend lots of time deciding what is right for your child’s development, growth and age. Usu-ally the child’s next step is recommending the next step within the current discipline that they are enrolled in. Please do not let this discourage you from also trying a new discipline of the arts! Try Singing, Acting or Jazz in addition to ballet for example!

If your child is recommended to repeat a grade, it is not a failure. Dance and the Creative Arts are not designed to be rushed through, but are designed to be perfected before advancement. In many cases, the RAD Syllabus requires 2 years of study to complete a grade. In some cases, a child was placed in a far more advanced grade to begin with and was developmentally unable to perfect all of the skills in that level so they must stay another year, and in some cas-es, we have changed the ages ranges for a grade level as we discover that it is too challenging for younger students. A child will never fail at PURE. PURE staff believes in a child being developed slowly and carefully, so as to not skip over the most important set of skills....the basics. .

Please do not lose this package, as it has impor-tant times, dates, costume requirements, recital show order, volunteer information, parking information, DVD and photo order forms, and pro-gram “special shout out” submission forms. A list of the Recital orders will be listed soon in the lobby of PURE so you may organize your ticket needs and your show week scheudle. You may discover that your child or children are performing in more than one show. The PURE Artistic Director tries to avoid this when-ever possible, but in some cases, it is impossible to avoid. We have attempted to make the rehearsal process and Recital week call times as family-friendly and fun as possible. The entertainment life is a busy one, so please expect to be busy during the week of June 7 - June 11th. However, we can say with confidence that the end result will be worth it! Your children are going to absolutely shine on that stage...THAT we can guarantee! Tickets go on sale in Early May.

Don’t forget, we are so much more than a dance school now!

cALL FOR vOLUNtEERS FOR REcItALWe will need backstage volunteers! How-ever, we encourage you to volunteer for a recital show that your child is NOT IN, so that you may enjoy your own child’s show from the audience. A volunteer sign up sheet will be available at the front desk once Recital tickets go on sale in earl May. Once you have signed up, you will be con-tacted with your duties and assignments by PURE management. Volunteers will have very specific duties and instructions for helping children backstage, so rest easy knowing that the volunteers will be very well managed and instructed by the volunteer and backstage coordinator, Candice Willmore.

cOStUME FEES ANd AccOUNt BaLaNCES Please note that all final costume fees will be charged to accounts by May 1st. All costumes will remain the property of the student at the end of the year. Please en-sure that your account is paid in full each month.

HAPPY WALLYou may have noticed a new addition of massive bulletin boards at the edge of the upper lobby. This is our “HAPPY WALL”!

We are looking to fill it with great news, accomplishments, quotes, photos, and happy memories. PURE students are ac-complishing great things in and outside the walls of PURE, and we want to know about it all! If your child gets a part in the school play, bring us a program or a photo. Is your child in the newspaper? Bring it in! Did you snap a great photo at an event? Do you have a favorite quote, or some-thing nice to say about somebody? Please, inspire us! Bring any item you would like displayed to the front desk or your child’s teacher. And don’t forget to check out the wall anytime you want to feel uplifted!

Also, you can check the new HAPPY WALL to find out what fun events will be go-ing on this April for extra House Leagues Points! Get involved and have fun!

pure heartAli Pittuck is our PURE HEART for the month! Ali, along with her Mom Kris, helped organize a ‘food drive’ to help Outreach For Hunger after their devastating fire in downtown Chatham in March. Ali set up a table in the PURE lounge April 4-9th and was there each night collecting non-per-ishable food items & household supplies to give to Outreach For Hunger

She also kept track and tallied each students’ donation so we could give points to their respective house leagues. Thank you Ali for volunteering to give back to the community and your compassion to help in a time of need!
