B E S T R E G I O N A L H O S P I TA LCHI Memorial is once again the only hospital in the Chattanooga area to be named a Best
Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report.
CHI Memorial is also recognized as ‘high performing’ rating in eight surgical procedures
and chronic conditions evaluated by U.S. News: colon cancer surgery, lung cancer
surgery, COPD, heart failure, heart bypass surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair,
knee replacement and hip replacement.
T O P 10 0 I N C O N S U M E R L O YA LT YCHI Memorial has been named in the 2019 NRC Health Top 100 Consumer Loyalty list. The
health system is recognized by NRC Health as one of the top healthcare organizations in
the country, garnering extraordinary loyalty from its patient populations as identified and
rated by more than 300,000 U.S. consumers.
For nearly four decades, NRC Health has helped healthcare organizations illuminate and improve the
moments that matter most to patients, residents, physicians, nurses, and staff. The Consumer Loyalty
Awards are the first and only loyalty-based hospital rankings in the U.S. CHI Memorial was selected
based on results from NRC Health’s Market Insights survey, the largest database of healthcare consumer
responses in the country.
B E S T O F T H E B E S TFor the 11th consecutive year, CHI Memorial has been named Best Hospital in the
Chattanooga Times Free Press’ Annual Best of the Best Awards. CHI Memorial’s Emergency
Department was named Best ED for the 10th year. CHI Memorial Pediatric Diagnostic
Associates was named Best Pediatrician and Dr. Jeffrey Jump was a finalist for Best General
Practice Physician.
10 0 G R E AT H O S P I TA L SBecker’s Healthcare has recognized CHI Memorial as one of 100 Great Hospitals in America. The
hospitals included in the ranking have been recognized nationally for excellence in clinical care, patient
outcomes, and staff and physician satisfaction. Included on the list are industry leaders that have
achieved advanced accreditation and certification in several specialties and are industry innovators that
have sparked trends in healthcare technology, hospital management and patient satisfaction. Becker’s
selected hospitals based on analysis of ranking and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report’s
2018-2019 rankings, CareChex, Healthgrades, CMS star ratings, Leapfrog grades and IBM Watson Health
top hospitals.
S I LV E R P L U S S T R O K E AWA R DThe American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognized CHI Memorial
with the 2019 Get with the Guidelines Stroke Silver Plus with Honor Roll Elite Achievement
Award. This award recognizes hospitals that apply the most up-to-date evidence-based
treatment guidelines to improve patient care and outcomes in the community.

As I write this letter looking back over the past fiscal year, I
wonder how the history books will adequately sum up this
global pandemic called COVID-19. I am certain of one thing -
CHI Memorial is incredibly blessed to have the overwhelming
support of our community. With many of our staff on the front
lines providing lifesaving care, you gave when the need was
the greatest. Gifts of valuable PPE supplies, food, generous
monetary donations, and your prayers gave us the confidence
and support needed to continue to provide the high quality care
for which we have received national recognition.
As you read the contents of this annual report, you will notice that
although some of our celebrations and events look a bit different,
the face masks do not hide the enthusiasm and joy that come
from helping those most in need. On behalf of CHI Memorial
Foundation’s board and staff, we remain united in providing the
very best care possible. We look forward to the day when we can
once again be face to face and hand and hand.
Thank you for your continued support.
Dan Norton Foundation Board Chair, 2019-2021
4 S TA R R AT I N GCHI Memorial has once again received a four star rating from the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The most common overall hospital
quality star rating is three stars, out of a possible five stars. Only 24 percent
of the 4,573 hospitals included in the survey received a four star rating. CHI
Memorial scored at or better than the national average in mortality, patient
experience, and effectiveness of care.
The overall rating shows how well an individual hospital is performing compared to other hospitals in
the U.S., on average. CMS uses data regularly reported by hospitals and summarizes up to 59 quality
measures into a star rating. This rating is designed to help individuals, family members and care givers
compare hospitals and easily understand complex quality information.

Community.
Over the past year we each have a new appreciation for our
community. We have come together and supported each
other in ways that have changed people’s lives. We have
donated food to the hungry, we have made sure families had
a place to live, we have checked on homebound neighbors,
and we have encouraged each other to keep going through
much difficulty.
At CHI Memorial, we consider each of you critical members
of our CHI Memorial community. Whether you have been a
donor for decades or became one just this year, you are part
of the family ensuring health care needs are met and the
clinical team providing that care has been surrounded by
your generous spirit.
I have no doubt we, as a community, will emerge stronger.
And because of you, CHI Memorial will be here, caring for
you and your family with compassion and excellence.
Thank you for your support. You have entrusted us with your
gifts and I assure you 100% of every dollar given has stayed
here for the benefit of the people in this region. Through
your generosity thousands upon thousands of our citizens
have received the best healthcare available!
Best wishes,
Jennifer NicelyFoundation President and Chief Development Officer

Y O U R K I N D N E S S I N A C T I O N . . . W E A R E I N T H I S T O G E T H E RIn early spring 2020, the world as we knew it totally changed. COVID-19, masks, hand washing, and
social distancing are now part of our everyday language.
What is unchanged is our gratitude for the outstanding CHI Memorial team. CHI Memorial employees
continue to work tirelessly and heroically to keep our facilities running and patients cared for with
excellence and compassion.
We are humbled and grateful for the heartwarming support from our community. Thank you to the
many businesses, churches, restaurants, and individuals who provided breakfast, lunch, dinner and
snacks in support of our front line staff. Over 7,500 meals and snacks were provided, feeding not only
our bodies but our souls.
CHI Memorial received almost 76,000 items through donations of supplies. Donations came from
families, churches, and businesses large and small including N-95 masks, surgical masks, cloth
masks, bottles of sanitizer, containers of sanitizing wipes, and much more.
Special thanks to the generous donors who contributed much needed funds to our COVID-19 Disaster
Relief Fund providing necessary resources supporting our physicians, nurses and staff at
this critical moment.

P I N K ! 2 0 2 0 : A R E C O R D B R E A K I N G E V E N T ! CHI Memorial Foundation’s 15th annual Pink! gala, chaired by Will and Sarah Clegg, and Rick and Pam
McKenney, raised a net cash total of $516,000, setting a record high for the event. The generosity of the sell-
out crowd helped bring the total amount raised during 15 years of this annual fundraising gala to more than
$4.7 million.
This year’s theme was Carnaval, complete with festive celebration and samba dancing. We are so thankful to
all of our sponsors and attendees for their amazing support of Pink! and the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center
at CHI Memorial. All proceeds from Pink! stay here in our community to ensure the MaryEllen Locher Breast
Center at CHI Memorial has the latest equipment and technology available and provides the highest quality
care available to women in need. This year, funds raised from the Pink! gala held on Saturday, January 25,
2020 will be used to open a MaryEllen Locher Breast Center at CHI Memorial Parkway in Ringgold, Georgia, the
Center’s fourth location. A portion of the proceeds were used to help purchase a new mobile mammography
coach that will offer 3D mammograms. This new coach will replace the first mobile coach that was put into
service 15 years ago.

C O L O R C H AT TA N O O G A P I N K !January 19-25, 2020
Color Chattanooga Pink! was bigger than ever this year! The weeklong event
unites our community in raising awareness of the importance of early detection
and treatment of breast cancer and supports those who are undergoing
treatment. Led by our Color Chattanooga Pink! co-chairs Mark Hite and Betsy
Ranalli, the response was tremendous with businesses, restaurants, schools,
and individuals turning our community awash in pink.
We are especially grateful to Unum for their sponsorship of the very first Unum Block Party to Color
Chattanooga Pink! held on January 22, 2020. The successful week was capped off with an announcement
from Mayor Andy Berke proclaiming January 19-25, 2020 as Color Chattanooga Pink Week, urging residents
of our community, and communities across the country, to support the fight against breast cancer and
encourage early detection of the disease this week and throughout the year.

M A G I C : MEMORIAL AS SOCIATES GIVING TO IMPROVE OUR COMMUNIT YEvery day, we are called to respond to the needs of others around us, whether it’s our patients, the
underserved in our community, or our fellow co-workers. Our CHI Memorial employees have always
answered the call, giving over $3 million dollars since the program’s inception in 2003 through contributions
to the MAGIC program.
The 2018-2020 MAGIC campaign supported the Employee Emergency Fund to provide employees with
financial assistance during a time of crisis. Since 2003, 481 employees have received help from the
Employee Emergency Fund for a total of $312,000. Departments from across our three campuses received
much needed equipment and program support with grants totaling $40,000.

C A R I N G S P I R I T P R O G R A MPatients, family members, and friends are often grateful for the difference caregivers make in their lives
during their time here at CHI Memorial. The Caring Spirit program through CHI Memorial Foundation is a
wonderful way to honor outstanding caregivers and also support programs that continue to save lives in our
community. The Foundation presents Caring Spirit awards as a way to recognize employees named by the
donor for exhibiting our core values of reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence. Donations made
to CHI Memorial Foundation in honor of a caregiver are returned back to CHI Memorial to support services
chosen by the donor. Congratulations to all of our Caring Spirit award winners!

C H I M E M O R I A L A U X I L I A R Y A N D V O L U N T E E R S E R V I C E SFor fiscal year 2020, over 396 volunteers donated a total of 44,551 hours in service utilizing their talents
and many areas of expertise serving in 80 different areas of CHI Memorial both onsite and virtually. Some
highlights included providing volunteer support to staff with the historic transition to the state-of-the-art
EPIC electronic health records system, funding the first Clinical Pastoral Education Program to be held
at CHI Memorial, sponsoring the WeCare Weekend Retreat which offers support to and celebration of
togetherness with cancer patients and their families and expanding our pet therapy program bringing much
joy to patients, visitors and staff. In March, our volunteer program was paused due to COVID-19, yet our
volunteers continued to serve from home donating hundreds of hand-made fabric masks, hand-sanitizer,
anti-bacterial wipes, catered meals, donations to the COVID-19 employee emergency fund and shared
numerous cards, letters, calls and endless prayers for the CHI Memorial family.

Tribute Giving Honor a loved one with a tribute gift to CHI Memorial
Foundation on holidays, anniversaries, birthdays and
other special occasions. CHI Memorial tribute gifts are a
meaningful way to honor the life and spirit of a
special person.
Host an Event Events are a great way for small business owners and
community leaders to bring fun and unique activities to
their community with proceeds benefiting CHI Memorial
Foundation. All events benefiting CHI Memorial must be
approved in advance by calling (423) 495-4141.
Corporate Sponsorships A corporate sponsorship to one of the Foundation’s
annual events gives your business recognition as an
organization that gives back to the community. Your
company’s name and logo can appear on invitations and
programs, and in newspapers and magazines, as well as
in social media outlets.
A corporate sponsorship also has a lasting impact on the
community by making events such as Pink! successful
enough to bring back every year and provide funds for
programs and services at CHI Memorial.
Planned Giving A planned gift to CHI Memorial Foundation is a great way
to ensure that your legacy of giving in life continues to
impact the next generation of healthcare recipients.
Become a Friend of Memorial A Friend of Memorial is an individual who has made an
annual gift of $100 or more. Donors receive recognition
in the Foundation’s monthly E-news, in the annual report,
and on the donor recognition wall.
For more information on ways to give, call (423) 495-4438 or visit www.memorial.org/foundation
