There was one request for a winning Reflection project to be returned - everything is posted in 110 - I'll be happy to distribute them at a later time - they are all safe and secure.

PTA Virtual meeting notes April 2020

Welcome everyone - these are unprecedented times we are living in and while we are all dealing with adjusting to our own personal circumstances, we at Burr are most certainly thinking of you, your families, and your children and we hope that in the coming months we will resume a sense of normalcy. This would have been our April PTA meeting. Given that schools have remained closed, we are opting to send our PTA related information via Email at this time.

AGENDA

I – Meeting called to order

II – March meeting minutes are posted on the Burr PTA website

III – Treasurer’s Report - Checking Account Balance - $53,182.95

IV – There is no correspondence at this time

V – There are no Council or BOE reports to communicate at this time.

VI – Mr. Schmelter/Mrs. Forbes

Mr. Schmelter and Mrss. Forbes would like to thank everyone for working together, flexibility and patience!

We have an announcements page to view and if there are any concerns to email us. I know it's sad - but to be honest, if family members have been lost to this horrible virus, we would like to know. We've have a few phone calls/emails already - and we're here to support in a variety of ways (phone call, cards, support, emails to respective staff members).

There was one request for a winning Reflection project to be returned - everything is posted in 110 - I'll be happy to distribute them at a later time - they are all safe and secure.

If there's anything else - it's knowing that we are here to help!

VII – Co - President’s Report - Jenn Levinson/Linda Reimann

As mentioned above, this is a very unprecedented time in our lives. On behalf of myself, Linda and the entire Executive Board, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the staff and faculty for their continued support in the best interest of our children. We hope you remain safe and well and as always, we are here for you with any questions and concerns you may have. Please reach out to us!

Our May PTA meeting is scheduled for 5/14. Schools will remain closed then, we will either be emailing again or will be hosting a ZOOM meeting. The VOTE for the 20/21 Exec board must take place at that time. It will either be in the form of a ZOOM virtual vote or a Google doc vote. Further information will follow.

Committee sign-up sheets for 20/21 will be posted on backpack news in the coming weeks.

Class parents – we are working to determine a solution for remaining class funds as a building. They are not to be used as teacher gifts. Any remaining funds will be going back to the students in some capacity. We are missing some class balances. Please email Jenn at [email protected] if you have not already done so.

Standing Committee Reports

Arts in Education– reported by Tracy Decena

All Arts in Education programs have been cancelled. Kids Art is near completion. In the event that we do not return to school until September, the shipments will be stored by district until we are able to distribute. More information to follow!

After School Clubs – reported by Linda Reimann

After school clubs refunds are being submitted.

Yearbook – reported by Denise Jacobs

Yearbook is completed and submitted.  All checks submitted to 3rd and 4th grade teachers before school closed were obtained by me from Mrs. Hand, thanks to my fortuitous feeling that schools were going to be closed indefinitely, so all orders were logged in and checks were given to PTA treasurer(in a drive-by drop off).  Yearbook orders can also be made online by visiting the schoolannual.com by Jostens website until April 30.  Final photos needed(of teachers that Mrs. Hand had taken a few days and weeks before) for yearbook were also obtained from Mrs. Hand via a flashdrive(that will somehow have to get back to her).  3rd and 4th grade talent shows didn’t take place so were  just made into extra pages that included 3rd and 4th grade photos of the students that were unused photos from other activities and called them “FunPages.”  Yearbooks should arrive at Burr school in mid-June.  They are normally labeled with photo stickers of each student before given out.  How this will be done should school remain closed is yet to be worked out.  Somehow, someway, it is hoped that all 5th grade recipients and 3rd and 4th grade payees of the yearbook will somehow get them should school remain closed for rest of year.  (It was suggested that Mr. Schmelter would personally deliver them via a bicycle drive by- that could be fun to watch).  That is it!  Take care!😀

Ducks Game – reported by Tara Terry

Ducks game is cancelled. Monies/Checks will be returned as appropriate when we are able to access from the building.

Family Fun Event – reported by Krista Clark

Our Family Fun Miller’s Ale House Fundraiser is on hold until restaurants open back up again.

SEPTA – reported by Nicole Gianelli

At this time there is not news to share from SEPTA.

Talent Show – reported by Jenn Levinson

The 5th grade talent show was held on 3/6. Thank you again to all parent and high school volunteers for offering to help. The children were outstanding! Unfortunately, due to the school closure, the 4th and 3rd grade shows were cancelled. Thank you for those parents and volunteers who lent their help and support leading up to the event. Any pre-order raffle sales will be eventually be returned. The remaining raffle prizes have been donated to Commack Feeds our Heros, a local non-profit group serving the Commack community frontline workers.

Camp Mariah Spirit wear – reported by Paula Montaldo & Tara Terry

Unfortunately, the Camp Mariah trip for fifth grade has been cancelled. At this time, we are working on returning all monies/checks via mail. FYI… we were unable to collect all class envelopes from teacher classrooms prior to shut down. Please be patient with us returning your money as we do not have access to the building.

Burr Spirit Wear – reported by Marisa Parlow, Endina Tomasello & Elaine Rojas

We are very excited about all the new Burr Spirit Wear ready for sale as soon as we get back. We were scheduled to sell it at the second grade orientation that was cancelled on 3/30.
