Choir Notes
Adult choir practices resume on Jan. 6th! Enjoy the break and thanks to the choir and musicians
for MANY hours of hard practice!
A big thank you to all who helped in anyway with the Children's Program and Cantata. Those who decorated, pre-
pared and served food, provided technology support, "characters,” candle lighters, narrators, and costume de-
signers- there was a great effort by many people to make this season "bright.” Thanks be to God for you all!
Members of Commerce First United Methodist Church will be serving on a mission team to
Honduras. The team will be serving in Honduras from January 16-23rd. In order to pre-
pare for this mission trip, team members are asking for donations of supplies. Supplies
needed include: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, nail clippers, wash cloths, sandwich
size baggies and gallon size baggies. These items will go into health kits to be distributed
during the Honduras trip. There will be a collection bin in the sanctuary until Jan. 10. Thanks so much!
JACKSON COUNTY’S GOT TALENT
The Jackson County Arts Council is sponsoring the “Jackson County’s Got Talent” contest Saturday, Janu-ary 30th, 2016 at 7:00p at the Jefferson Civic Center. Our own Mac McKenzie will be one of the seven talented performers and will be singing to support the recruitment, training, and support of court appointed special advocates (CASA’s) by Piedmont CASA (www.PiedmontCASA.org) for children in the foster care system in Banks, Jackson, and Barrow counties. Mac will compete for the coveted People’s Choice Award (First and Second Place), while earning money for Piedmont CASA. A “Vote for Mac” (one dollar equals one vote) will help support Piedmont CASA’s mission and the arts in Jackson County. One half of the vote money is retained by Jackson County Arts Council and the other half is donated to Piedmont CASA.
Several ways to vote:
*Use a credit/debit card to “Vote Mac” by browsing to http://tiny.cc/votemac. Click the “Donate” button at the bottom of the page.
*Drop a check in the offering plate on Sundays with “Vote Mac” in the memo.
*Put cash in an offering envelop marked “Vote Mac” and put in the offering plate on Sundays.
*Mail a check to Jackson County Arts Council, P.O. Box 598, Jefferson, GA 30549 with “Vote for Mac McKenzie” in the memo.
Voting ends Monday, January 20th, so vote now, vote often. Help Piedmont CASA reach its goal of 2,000 votes. VOTE MAC!

Children’s Ministry
It’s a New Year and with that comes the opportunity to make the Children’s Ministry
everything we wish for it to be…and that means including you in all of our deci-
sions…are you ready for 2016??
Wonderful Wednesday starts back on Wednesday, January 13th! We meet in the
gym at 5:15 for free-play time and break into age appropriate groups at 5:30 to begin our lesson. Pick
up is at the Sanctuary Ramp at 6:15. All children age 3 to 12 are invited to attend and to enjoy the music
and games, Bible story, and craft time that we have at each session. The Wonderful Wednesday Team
looks forward to seeing everyone!
Everyone interested in the Children’s Ministry is invited to attend a Children’s Ministry Planning
Meeting on Wednesday, January 13th during Wonderful Wednesday. We will meet in the Family Life
Center at 5:30 to plan for 2016. Please join us so that 2016 is the best year it can possibly be for our chil-
dren!
Acolyte Training will be held on Wednesday, January 27th during WW time. All children in the Warrior
Sunday School class (grades 3,4,5) are invited to attend the training whether they are experienced aco-
lytes or brand new! Parents are invited to attend so you can learn how your child can serve during Wor-
ship.
Volunteers are needed for Children’s Church and for the Nurseries. Sign-up sheets for January –
March will be upstairs in the Sunday School area. Thank you for sharing your time and talents with us!
We are looking forward to a year full of adventure and growth in Christ…
In His Love,
Gina
Confirmation
It is our honor and privilege to work with our children and watch them grow in the Lord.
Through Sunday worship, Sunday school, Wonderful Wednesday programs, and Children and
Youth activities, we bring the word and love of God to our children knowing that one day they
will be ready and able to profess their faith openly and on their own.
Do you have a child that is saying “I believe in God, now what?” The “now what” means they are ready to begin
Confirmation Classes and publicly affirm that the faith of the church is also their faith. They are ready to begin their
lives as disciples of Jesus. So they can further learn what a life of discipleship is all about, Confirmation classes will
begin in early Spring. If your child has been asking questions, we invite you to contact the church office at (706)
335-4018 or email the office at [email protected] and let us know that they will be part of the 2016 Confir-
mation Class.
As a congregation, we invite you to be in prayer for our children, their families and their decisions to follow Jesus
Christ.
In His love,
K. Ellen, and Gina, David
Youth News HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I hope you have had an amazing Christmas with your
family and your friends. As we move into 2016, it is a time to make
“resolutions.” I must confess, that I have never been successful in keeping
my resolutions but I will try again this year. These resolutions should not be
viewed upon as punishment or some type of drudgery but something that
will help us to become better people—more importantly stronger Christians.
Some examples might include: spending more time in devotional and quiet
time, taking part in Youth activities and projects, serving as the hands and feet of Christ. It is my
prayer that you will join me in working toward becoming a stronger Christian in 2016.
I would like to take a moment to thank the members of our church family who faithfully pray for
and support our Youth.
Please put these events on your calendar and plan to join us. When you aren’t with you, you are
missed.
