Groundwork was laid twelve years prior with Commerce ISD getting the infrastructure installed that could get us off the ground
(Al Shipp - Dir. of Technology).
Most of the work was done with e-rate money, with the exception of district owned fiber.

Internet Bandwidth = 200 meg
In-District Network Bandwidth = 10 gig
Wireless access points throughout the district

CISD applied for and received funding from a T3 Grant
Commerce ISD, Bonham ISD, Wolfe City ISD and Texas A&M University-Commerce
$965,000 Total / CISD = $360,000 + Stimulus money

Fall of 2009
Each classroom received:
• Projector
• Document Camera
• Promethean Board
• Laptop for each teacher
Began talking how we wanted to approach technology in the classroom of the future
Laptops vs. iPads vs. Tablets other than iPads

Spring of 2010 Had four different Apple Trainers come to
CISD and teach staff some of the basics of how to use the iPad.
These staff members then taught other staff members.
iPad basics, iBook Author, Pages, Numbers, iMovie, etc.

Spring of 2011 (cont.)
Decided due to cost and capabilities with apps, digital textbooks and the less likelihood of getting a virus, we decided to get the iPad2.
• At that time was a better price break.
• Only had Wi-Fi capabilities.
• Purchase some “apps” through volume purchasing program.
• E-mail the student a redemption code for them to download.
• Most are free.
This is where the CISD plan is a little different………

Our plan is unique to us due to socio-economic make-up of CISD.

$379 Cost of the iPad - $79 C.S.E.E.F. $300 sub-total (+$50 Insurance) (+$20 Loan Processing Fee) (+$20 Taxes) $390 Total Cost
Guaranty Bond Bank approved the loans, “no questions asked”.
Now……. Applicants have to open an account.

Spring of 2011(cont.) Held parent meetings explaining the 1 to 1 program
Handed out loan applications
Communicated that students could purchase their own and bring to school (BYOD).
• Strongly encouraged insurance.
Told parents not all teachers would get on board immediately.

2011-2012 about ½ of students at CHS took advantage
of this offer
If more than one student was in the household, ½ off second device.
Also allowed staff to purchase through the payment plan through payroll deduction.
(Spring – TLP Grant ($50,000) + IMA to help with the other ½ of students.

2012-2013
Actual implementation of initiative
All students had access to a device either owned by themselves or by CISD.
Continued the same purchasing options for parents and staff.

2013-2014
Started implementing a $25.00 User Fee + $50.00 refundable insuranc fee.
User Fee would help with learning that everything is not free.
Help pay for Apps.
