Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Know When To Replace An Old

Commercial AC Unit?

Before you decide, ask yourself the following questions:

Is the unit between 15 and 20 years old? If so, it may have seen better

days.

Do you have to call in the experts for AC repair on a regular basis? If those

repairs are adding up, it might be more cost-effective to install a new unit.

Are there strange sounds coming from the unit? If the noise continues after

a repair, start looking for a replacement.

Do you notice that the unit never turns off? A unit that runs ceaselessly

often has a mechanical issue, and might need to be replaced.

How Do Commercial Air Conditioners Work?

Commercial air conditioners work much like residential AC units, but on a

larger scale.

Main Components are-

• Compressors,

• condensers,

• evaporator coils,

• blowers and

• chemical refrigerants.

The evaporator coil cools the hot air before it travels through the

building’s ducts and out the vents.

How Can I Repair a Commercial AC System?

You can take care of basic AC repairs such as changing the filter etc.

For more complex problems, call an HVAC expert.

They can help you to complete every necessary repair safely such as

washing, lubrication, inspection and flushing etc to improve the overall

performance of your unit.

How Much Does it Cost to Operate a

Commercial AC?

The cost of running a commercial air conditioner depends on-

Unit type and

Building size.

Calculation:

Step 1. Look on your air conditioner to find the watt-hours (Wh) metric. Multiply by a

factor 1000 to convert into kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Step 2. Multiply the kilowatt-hours by the cost per kWh listed on your utility bill. For

example, if you have a 1,500 Wh (1.5 kWh) unit and you pay 10 cents per kWh,

your hourly cost to operate the air conditioner will be 15 cents.

Step 3. Use this basic hourly projection to estimate the cost of running

your commercial AC unit for a day, a week, a month or a full season.

How Long Will a Commercial AC Unit Last

in Comparison to Regular Units?

A properly maintained commercial AC unit will typically survive 15-20

years, while a regular residential unit usually lasts 12-15 years.

With regular maintenance from an HVAC professional, however, a

regular unit can last as long as a commercial one.

If your air conditioner breaks down a lot, investing in a new unit can save

you a lot of time, money and headaches, even if your current model is only

10 or 15 years old.
