    The CFSAC act solely in an advisory capacityto provides advice and makesrecommendations to the USCG and theDepartment of Homeland Security

    on matters relating to the safe operation ofcommercial fishing industry vessels.

    Torie Baker She hoped to learn and contribute where possible. Kathy Ruhle - This is Ms. Ruhles last meeting as her appointment is expiring. She wished the Committee the

    best and asked them to keep in mind that the little guy needs help just as much as the big guy.

    John OLeary Expressed concern for new requirements putting people out of business. The main goal is tosave lives, which must be with rules that are done right and are fishery-specific.

    Glenn Hewlett- Hopes to make things safer for fishermen and pass info back to fishermen in the community.

    Thu Bui Wants to learn as much as she can to bring back to fishermen so that they can make informdecisions about their fishing business

    Philip Read Was looking forward to working with the Committee and finding places to contribute. Alan Davis Wanted to share knowledge between participants and learn ways we can all improve.

    Thomas Dameron - Hoped to send good advice to the Coast Guard that well-represents the Committee andcommercial fishermen.

    Jake Jacobsen Wanted to further clarify and perpetuate safety solutions that make sense.

    Fred Mattera Hoped to recognize the economic situation that the fishing fleet has and arrive at safetysolutions that fishermen can comply with.

    Ted Williams Wanted to clear up misnomers among fishermen in his area, and advise local Coast Guard.

    Leslie Hughes Hoped to flesh out guidance for the training program, while being mindful of cost factors andtheir impact.

    Brian Bratager Wanted to bring an increased awareness of insurance issues to the fishing vesselcommunity.

    Jerry Dzugan Interested in training and its role in fishing safety. His expectation for the meeting was thatthe Committee would make recommendations to advance the new requirements, and begin providinganswers for the fishing fleet.

    THE COAST GUARD AUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2010WILL REQUIRE COMMERCIAL FISHING VESSELS TO

    SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE A DOCKSIDE SAFETY

    EXAMINATION AT LEAST ONCE EVERY TWO YEARS.

    THIS NEW FEDERAL REQUIREMENT WILL APPLYTO BOTH USCG DOCUMENTED AND STATEREGISTERED VESSELS THAT COMMERCIALLY FISH

    MORE THAN 3 NAUTICAL MILES SEWARD OF THETERRITORIAL BASELINE.

    DOCKSIDE SAFETY EXAMS ARE VALID FOR TWO

    YEARS....THERE'S NO REASON TO WAIT.
