The Office of Consumer Protectionenforces consumer protection laws under Miami-Dade County's UniformTrade Standards and Deceptive Trade Practices Ordinance, as well asregulates and enforces laws relating to specific industries. Our ConsumerMediation Center investigates a variety of consumer complaints, mediatesdisputes between consumers and businesses, and educates consumers andbusinesses about their rights and responsibilities in order to maintain avibrant local marketplace. Our experienced and motivated staff of State-certified mediators and enforcement officers assist members of the publicon a daily basis with a variety of inquiries and complaints. JULY IN REVIEWCommissioner Bovo visits DC to discuss the SmartPlan

Commissioner Bovo visited DC to speak with members of Congress and Departmentheads regarding the SmartPlan of Miami-Dade County. Among those members anddepartment heads was the Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta and CongressmanMario Diaz-Ballart.

BCC Presentations

Commissioner Bovo presented a special presentation to the National Oceanic andAtmospheric Administration/ National Weather Service for their work during Hurricaneseason.

Fiscal Priorities Committee Meeting

Commissioner Bovo participated in the Fiscal Priorities Committee (FPC) of theMiami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), the committee is composedof members of the TPO Governing Board.

Visit of Latin American Government Authorities

Commissioner Bovo met with a group of people who attended the FIU and theUniversity of Granada, Spain seminar in Miami from July 10-14 on Financing andManagement of Urban Development. A group of several Latin American countries withdifferent backgrounds including academics, elected officials, and public servants werepresent at the meeting.

Community Health and Wellness Grand Opening

Commissioner Bovo attended the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of theCommunity Health & Wellness Center of Miami and its corporate offices located inHialeah.
