Dear All,
Hi All,
As you read this we will
have turned the page on a
new year. I hope you all
had a restful and enjoya-
ble Christmas and New
Year.
This quarter we have held
Rallies, trainings and a
Competition, which have
been well supported and
enjoyed by members.
We entered several teams
into the interbranch com-
petition at Rodbaston,
where we came away with
several achievements,
both team and individual.
We celebrated the achieve-
ments of the members at
our annual presentation
evening where cups, tro-
phies and rosettes were
awarded.
By the time you read
this we will have held our
Christmas Rally where we
aim to provide a fun and
festive day for all those
who attend.
As we move into 2015 we
have a varied programme
of events laid on with for-
ward notification of dates.
Wishing you all the Best

Presentation Evening is an
excellent way to celebrate
all of the success of our
branch members. This
years event was held at
Offley Hay Village Hall in
November and was well
attended by members
both old and new. Many
members came away
clutching rosettes and
cups and trophies in all shapes
and sizes.
The branch has done very well
this year, with branch members
placing at area in all disciplines
and also one member placing in
the top ten at Nationals! Many of
our members have also studied
for and gained efficiency tests
and the efforts of our junior camp
helpers was duly noted.
Not to be outdone, our
younger members are show-
ing enormous potential and
soon plan to give the seniors
a run for their money!

A very well attended interbranch
competition was held in October
at Rodbaston EC. All our teams
did extremely well gaining many
1st and 2nd place rosettes. Many
thanks to Linda for all her support
and advice on the day.
The Christmas Show produced some excellent riding, with a particu-
larly nail biting puissance; the mini puissance almost jumping as high
as the seniors!
Many thanks to all involved, and particular thanks to the parent’s
committee for running hot drinks and the raffle.

Dates and venues have now been confirmed for both senior camp and also our ever popular day
camp.
Day camp is suitable for all ages and abilities, but more specifical-ly, for those who feel not quite ready for Senior Camp, or maybe those members who may have had a new horse/pony and want to take it slowly. There is no up-per age limit for Day Camp and
we can cater for all levels.
Day Camp will be held 30th July to 1st August 2015 and will be hosted courtesy of the Myatt Family at Park House Farm, El-
lenhall.
Senior Camp is suitable for those members aged 11 and up and is a residential camp for both mem-
bers and horse.
Senior Camp will be held again at Somerford from 8th—12th August 2015. We’ve had a new volunteer for camp mum, so this year, we’ll
have two ‘mums’; Karen Martin
and Nicola Casey.
please let Sarah Taylor know and she will pass on your details. The next meeting is on Tuesday 20th January 2015 at 8pm at Willough-
bridge, near Market Drayton.
If you have any ideas for fund raising events to support our branch and buy much needed
equipment, please let us know.
Thank you to all those who bought a lottery ticket. We sold 32 tickets making £480 for the Club and a prize pot of £160. The draw took place at Presentation Night and the first prize of £80
was won by Sally Heeley.
We also have 4 new members bringing our membership back up to 13 for the start of 2015. If an-yone else would like to join us
Thank you for your support in 2014. Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and successful
New Year to all.

As a member of North Staffs Hunt Pony Club , there is additional cover arranged by the branch, through NFU Mutual. This covers member/helpers/instructor, trav-elling to and from and whilst at a
pony club event.
The NFU will only cover members
aged 5-21.
Arranging adequate insurance cover for yourself and your pony is highly recommended. If you have any further queries about the branch policy, please do not hesitate to get in touch with ei-ther David Allen, Julie Myatt or
Sarah Taylor.
By being a member of the pony club, you are covered by The Po-ny Club’s insurance. There are however, limitations to the cover. These can be found on the at-tached summary of insurance cover at the back of this newslet-ter, but is for 3rd party liability only. For full policy details please

dshire/times/
We request that in the first instance
you check the website for your times,
usually 4 days before the activity. If
you are unable to attend an activity
that you have booked please contact
Julie as soon as possible as there is
often a waiting list and your place
can be used by someone else and you
may be refunded. CREDITS- will
only be given for cancelled activities
IF replacement found, OR if passed
by the DC (Julie) in cases of serious
illness/injured member or po-
ny/horse, wherever possible we re-
quest at least a weeks notice.
Mounted Rallies contact Julie for
more information. These rallies are
mainly based around flatwork, show
jumping, cross country and dressage.

ciency Tests. Therefore, members

Mounted Games contact Sarah
Weaver for more information Mount-
ed Games are great fun in our
branch for both Senior and Junior
members, come along and have a try
with sessions for all sizes and abili-
ties. More members needed for
teams to compete against other Pony
Clubs!
Those who wish to be considered
must be prepared to commit both to
training sessions and competition
dates. There will be a pathway of
progression for all members; from
the youngest jumping ground poles
and cross poles, to those jumping full
courses, from those taking part in
walk and trot intro to intermediate
dressage and above. Attendance at
rallies and training will not neces-
sarily ensure a place on the team, as
places will be considered on a team
need basis. However, it is likely that
The branch would like to build on
this year’s success at area competi-
tion and are therefore restructuring
team training. Originally, team
training was intended for those
members who were out ‘actively com-
peting’ for the branch, at area and
interbranch. However, it has been
felt that training is now indiscrimi-
nate from rallies. Therefore, teams
will be selected by the relevant in-
structors based on performance at
rallies; if you wish to be considered,
attendance at rallies is important.
there will be several levels of train-
ing, for novice, intermediate and ad-
vanced stages.
A meeting is being organised for ear-
ly 2015 to explain selection processes
further. More details will follow
soon.
If you have any queries, or require
further clarification please do not
hesitate to contact either Julie Myatt
or Sarah Taylor.

Our Trainers
Linda De Matteo I started my career as a member of the North Staffordshire Pony Club representing the branch at area level in all
disciplines. Now an international event rider I have competed to advanced/2* level. I am a fully qualified, insured
and registered British Horse Society Instructor (BHSI) and British Eventing Accredited Coach as well as having a
BSc(Hons) and Certificate in Education (OFSTED outstanding lecturer). I am also a PC examiner as well as a BE
Jump training and BE80(T) coach. With vast experience at all levels, I am passionate about training and with a fun
yet positive approach, aim to improve skill and confidence levels in both the horse and rider.
Sarah Weaver I was lucky enough to have ponies when I was younger and decided at an early age I wanted to work with horses and
teach. At 16 I left home and became a live in student at Tong riding centre. I qualified in 18 months and stayed on as
a junior instructor for 12 months after qualifying.
In 2000, I started to manage a riding school and student training centre, then started to work as a freelance instruc-
tor teaching for North Shropshire Pony Club / Prescott and Kingswood riding schools and doing schooling for local
clients.
In 2005 I took on more work riding hunters and working a livery yard. This became more enjoyable to me so I took a
job with Mike Slater full time running his business and grooming for his 3 hunters. I decided to go it alone and now 6
years on weaver equestrian is booming; 24 liveries, a riding school providing BHS exam training and NVQ’s from lo-
cal schools, a centre membership pony club and now a registered charity for the RDA.
My passion is training I've taken teams to area competitions and students right up to there BHSAI.
I love working with young children and seeing them grow in confidence and watching them achieve the goals. I don't
have much time for myself but I love producing young horses at home and I hunt with north staffs when I get the
chance and I like competing but low key!
Helen Elston I spent an idyllic childhood owning and riding ponies and was a member of North Staffs PC. from age 8 to 21 . During
this time I achieved my AH and also decided that horses were to be my career path. I am qualified as BHS AI,INT
SM and I am also a B test examiner. I get a lot of pleasure training people who compete but I get an equal buzz when
I can help a nervous child or adult take the next step. Teaching riding is a great job and I wouldn’t want to do any-
thing else.
Jenny Plant I joined the North Staffs Pony Club aged 11 and was a very active member representing them on numerous occasions
at area competitions in all disciplines. Show Jumping and Eventing soon proved to be my real passion which
During ,my 3 years at Aberyswyth University (where I spent far more time on the equine campus and with horses
than I ever did in the library) I continued to event my horses and to do all my Pony Club teaching qualifications.
On finishing my degree and deciding that a job in accounts was definitely not for me I moved down to Shropshire
where I was offered a fantastic job as a competition rider. Here I had a large string of horses competing form 4yr olds
to the more advanced, Show Jumping up to 1.40 classes and Eventing up to Advanced/3* level.
Five years ago I moved back to Staffordshire to set up my own yard and to give me more time not only to event my
own horses but to coach/ teach young children as well. Since then I have been a regular instructor for the North
Staffordshire pony club as well as working for several different riding schools. I love to help children progress and
train their horses and improve in confidence as I have.
Jo Titterton Horses have been my life for over 25 years. I have competed in all disciplines, however my passion is dressage and in
recent years I have been fortunate enough to train with some of the country’s top international judges and trainers,
from which I am able to share my learning with my pupils. I run my own competition and livery yard in Draycott,
where we have a string of dressage and event horses and re-train racehorses.
I am currently competing at Advanced Medium level with my top horse Vision B, and we are training towards Prix St
Georges. I brought Billy as a just backed 3 year old and together we have achieved huge successes, including, area
festival finalists, numerous times regional finalists, regional champions, national finalists.
I thrive on sharing my experiences with my pupils of all ages and abilities and love nothing more than seeing them
progress. I not only have the equestrian qualifications, but am also a fully qualified lecturer in further and higher
education.
I am a British Dressage listed trainer and a trainee British Dressage judge. My training achievements include area
festival finalists, regional finalists, national finalists and national champions, as well as winners in British Eventing.
I have a fun and creative approach to training, combining the scales of training with horse and rider alignment tech-
niques to help achieve perfect harmony between the horse and rider.

Summary of Insurance Cover Members of The Pony Club are covered by Third Party Personal Liability Insurance up to £30 million. This cov-er exists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Members are insured for legal liability for any accidental bodily injury or property damage caused to a third party arising out of the use or keeping of their own or a borrowed or hired horse or pony, provided that the horse or pony is primarily for the use of the Member.
The cover extends to anyone riding a Members' horse or pony with the Member's (or parent's) permission, if they have no cover elsewhere. (The Pony Club's existing Liability Insurance Policy runs until June 30, 2015. It is the firm intention of The Pony Club to renew the Policy, subject to acceptable terms being offered by the un-derwriters).
It is important also to outline the main things the insurance does not cover, which are: -
❏ Injury to, or damage to the property of, anyone in the Member’s family, household, or employment.
❏ Property in the care, custody, or control of the Member (e.g. a borrowed pony trailer, or a horse transported
for a friend).
❏ Racing under Turf Authority Rules (except for the UK Pony Racing Series), Point to Point,
Steeplechasing, Team Chasing or any other form of racing.
❏ Accidents to the Member.
❏ Business activities, or use for hire or reward.
The above summary is subject to all the Terms, Exceptions, and Conditions of the Policy, of which a full Policy Summary is available from Pony Club Headquarters or from our website www.pcuk.org, click on “For Parents”.
The £30 million Liability Insurance cover provided to Pony Club Members represents outstanding value. If a child were to be knocked down by a horse, and suffered permanent injury, the compensation awarded by the courts could exceed £10 million. Since the typical Household Insurance Policy has a maximum Public Liability limit of £2 million, with cover more specifically designed for small domestic animals, and the policy conditions being much more restrictive than under the Pony Club Policy, the owner of the horse could well be facing per-sonal bankruptcy if they rely on a Household Policy for their liability insurance. If an incident occurs which could give rise to a claim by a third party, it is absolutely essential for details to be reported immediately to The Pony Club’s insurance brokers, even if you believe that it will not result in a claim. If such a matter is reported late, Underwriters may refuse to provide indemnity. Do not admit liability or make any offer or promise of payment, as this could invalidate the insurance. Any correspondence received from the third party or a solicitor should be sent to the brokers unanswered. They will deal with the matter on your behalf.
