Last month Patty and I, along with Lou and Bob
Thousand, had the pleasure to attend the Saint
Augustine Yacht Club Change of Watch. The club
welcomed us with open arms (as always). The food
and hospitality were excellent.
Congratulations to outgoing Commodore Michael
Fegen and incoming commodore Judith Fegen and
their great group of Flag Officers.
The Commodore’s Social at Beachfront was a huge success, Great job VC
John Green. I have to apologize to some of you that I did not get to say hello
to, but the night was over before it got started. John will fill us in on this
event as well as upcoming events in his article.

Now is the time in my monthly article when I try to muster up some volunteers for the Social and
Maritime events. If you have not gotten involved in any planned activities it is never too late. If
you have any questions on how you can join in, please feel free to call or email me and we can
talk about it. Remember, the success of our events is directly tied to our great leads, co-leads,
and volunteer committee members.
Please check out the Flagler Beach Yacht Club Facebook page. Ask to join the group and then we
can all post pictures, as well as send messages back and forth. Patty Lindholm is the Facebook
Administrator.
Sounds like the Maritime committee has some great events in the works. Good job to the Fleet
Captains.
The January General Meeting carried a “Souperbowl” theme and was a huge success. Good job to
all the cooks.
We also welcomed Michelle and Jim Kelly to our club. When you see them at our events please
say hello.
Finally, at the January meeting, the 2016 board was sworn in by PC Len.

Well I hope everyone got the message about flipping the dates for the
Social at the Beach Front Bar and Grille and our January meeting.
If not you missed a great event and probably had the meeting all to
yourself.
The Social Committee began 2016 with a kick-off meeting in early January. At the meeting we
outlined both the General Meeting themes and Socials for the year. We have some standards, St
Patty’s Day and the 4th of July, but we also added several new events. The first meeting was going
to be a Souper Bowl with the board members cooking their favorite soup. This summer in place
of our August meeting there will be a Disco Dance and Dinner at the church hall.
With short notice of the change and no time for a sign-up sheet, FBYC still had over 60 members
attend the first social of the year at Beach Front Bar & Grille. Judging by the comments I heard
as I walked the room, everyone was happy with the event.
One of the highlights for me was meeting two members I had not met in my four years with the
club. As we were “socializing” before dinner, a very distinguished couple walked through the
door. The gentleman, dressed in a blue blazer with a yacht club emblem, and the lady equally at-
tired, seemed somewhat out of place for a Flagler Beach “locals” restaurant. Curious, I approach
them and introduced myself. I found this very distinguished couple to be Bernie and Judy Smith,
members of FBYC for over 10 years.

Remember, we need you to be involved to make these events a success. If you are asked to assist
on an event, please do whatever you can to help your fellow member.
Happy Boating,
John

Hello FBYC!!
Winter! Cool, but Spring is in sight and we can see our boats from
here. Hang in there FBYC, at least it's not New York (see below).
Let's all give a big Welcome Aboard to the following members:
* Ken and Patty Burback with their pontoon boat “Good Vibra-
tions”
*James and Michelle Kelly, Jr. with their 31’ Mainship “Top Cat”.
For all FBYCers, when you see the "star" identifying a brand new member, please stop to intro-
duce yourself and tell them all about the “Best Little Boat Club in Flagler”. Introduce them to your
friends. Remember, we were all newbies once, and we all joined to make new "besties". So, you see
a star on the name tag, say hello and invite them to sit and talk. And if you're the newbie, don't be
a wallflower. Seek out our legacy members. They're the ones with the wine or beer in their hands,
sometimes both. They know a lot about our history and will be happy to regale you with stories
and anecdotes.
On a more somber note, we all send our condolences to Dee Cohen who lost her sister, recently.
For Dee, as with all members, we stand with you in your time of sorrow. You are not alone when
you're in the FBYC.
Our boating season will soon begin so to take a minute to look over the membership list on the
web site. We try to keep it up to date, but we do need your help. Check this list to make sure
your phone number, email address and boat information is correct. Please let me know of any
corrections that need to be made. Also, if you are not getting the blasts, please contact me.
See you all at the next event. Meantime, if you have some news or some issue, please let me know
by e-mail ([email protected]) or call me on (386) 864-4385.
