Commodore’s Report - Paula Spina Nov 2010 Commodore’s Report As I begin writing this, my penultimate Commodore’s report, it always seems as if Autumn should be a slower time at the club. Of course, it never works out that way. As the leaves are blowing off the trees in October storms (back East leaves change color instead), we gear up to end the old year and start the new–a very busy time of year. As you all know by now, club elections were held at the last general meeting. Certain positions, Fleet and Trustee, were highly competitive. Some years we have to twist arms to get members to run for office. This year we had a wealth of really good candidates. It’s a pity that not every single one of them could be elected. However, I’m confident that those who were elected will do a spectacular job next year. Your 2011 Bridge: Commodore – Bill Dils; Vice Commodore – Peggy Allen; Rear Commodore – David Morton; Fleet Captain – Michael Thompson; Treasurer – Sharon Moore (by appointment to replace Bob Quick); Secretary – Nancy Morton. And your 2011 Board of Trustees: Les Alluisi (2010/2011); Bill Allen (2010/2011); Garry Moore (2010/2011); Pat Hansen (2010/2011 Alternate replacing David Morton); Jerry Zitkovitch (2011/2012); Rich Tremaglio (2011/2012); Lisa Haistings (2011/2012); Tim Dies (2011/2012); and Trustee Alternates: Robert Murphy (1 st Alternate 2011/2012); and Cindy Josephson (2 nd Alternate 2011/2012). Commodore’s Report As I begin writing this, my penultimate Commodore’s report, it always seems as if Autumn should be a slower time at the club. And your 2011 Board of Trustees: Les Alluisi (2010/2011); Bill Allen (2010/2011); Garry Moore (2010/2011); Pat Hansen (2010/2011 Alternate replacing David Morton); Jerry Zitkovitch (2011/2012); Rich Tremaglio (2011/2012); Lisa Haistings (2011/2012); Tim Dies (2011/2012); and Trustee Alternates: Robert Murphy (1st Alternate 2011/2012); and Cindy Josephson (2nd Alternate 2011/2012). Hearty congratulations to all of you.

In addition to holding elections, October also brought us the annual wine tour. And what a trip it was again this year. Judy and Bob Quick led us all over the Leavenworth and Wenatchee areas. We sam-pled some amazing wines, ate way too well, and had some very memorable experiences (including our very own version of a Keystone Cop car chase up and down the highway in Quincy looking for Jones of Washington). Kudos to Judy and Bob (mostly Judy) for yet another wonderful tour. I personally re-turned home with over seven cases of wine. The problem is, a month later I’m down to six cases. Hmmmm, given the wine purchase to drinking ratio. . .maybe we should do two wine tours a year! What do you think Judy? Speaking of Judy, but wearing a different hat, have you noticed how dynamic (read: crowded) our gen-eral meetings have become. Wow! We have new members joining the club every month thanks to our membership team (Judy, Trina and Sharon). Add to that all our old-timers showing up to see if I’ll finally fall off the dias (oh, wait that was Sharon Moore who did that this past meeting), our meetings are booming. The Bridge has taken to eating at the Bridge (I know that’s grammatical, but it sure sounds funny) and we may have to redesign our table layout in the clubhouse to accommodate more tables. What a great problem to have! And Judy and crew are doing yet another membership contest. Well, soon that will be Bill’s good problem. But my term isn’t over quite yet, and we have an awful lot coming up in the next few weeks. The Commodore’s Ball is Saturday, November 6th. I am told that the program will be highly entertaining, for almost everyone. I’m anticipating that I’ll be the one it isn’t entertaining for, and I’m trying to fig-ure out how to play hooky! Then on Saturday November 20th we have WhirlyBall. Can’t miss that! For those of you who have never played, the best way to describe it is: Jai Alai on bumper cars. Then the Special People’s Cruise is on Sunday December 5th. Chris Kullmann needs boats and volunteers for this most worthy, and rewarding, of civic activities. Just wait until you see all the smiles at the end of the cruise–what it’s all about. The Bell Harbor Holiday Shopping Cruise follows, on December 10th through 12th. Then there is the annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday December 15th. The question is, who will she pick? I can tell you one thing: I already know who gets the duck and pet duck flags, if we can find them. Contact me for tickets. . . . and then there was one more to go. Happy Halloween.

Vice Commodore’s Report - Bill Dils

Another year rapidly approaching its end. Wow; what a fantastic year it has been; great cruises, socials, members and lots of camaraderie! And still more to come. I applaud us all! A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all who helped at the Fall Work Party, what a great turn out and the club, dock and grounds are looking better than ever. I don’t know if anyone noticed at the General Meeting dinner how wrinkled Tim Dies is looking. He was in the water all day knocking out and tightening bolts for the new bow rails on the end half of the dock. A special thank you to TIM and the entire crew. A personal thank you to all the PSYC Members for trusting me to be their 2011 Commodore. I am really looking forward to next year and I will do my best for the Club and Members. I am anxiously waiting for next year and working with the club members and the new 2011 Board: Peggy Allen (Vice Commodore), David Morton (Rear Commodore), Mike Thompson (Fleet Captain), Nancy Mor-ton (Secretary), Sharon Moore (Treasurer). New Trustees: Rich Tremaglio, Tim Dies, Lisa Hastings and Jer-ry Zitkovich. First alternate Robert Murphy, Second alternate Cindy Josephson and last year’s alternate Pat Hansen tak-ing over for the last year of David Morton’s term. Also returning for their second year: Bill Allen, Les Alluisi, and Gary Moore. A special big thank you to Marcia Ellingson, Echo Summers and Jim Hubly for supporting the club and throwing their hats in the ring. There are no losers in this club and I hope to see you on the ballot next year. Coming up is the Commodore’s Ball honoring Commodore Paula Spina and Captain Lance Loomis (November 6, 2010) at the Rock Salt on Westlake. Cocktails at 6:00, dinner at 7:00 then festivities. Tickets are still available, Contact Sue Dils. Not an event to miss. November 20th is the WhirlyBall Tournament (see flyer) Hope to see you there. Tons of fun. See you all at the Commodore’s Ball.

It’s November? Already? Whew where did this year go? As I write this the sun is shining brightly and to-

night is Halloween. The best news is that the election is in a few days and there will be a stop to the ads,

election junk mail, and phone calls. Now that’s worth celebrating.

Our own Puget Sound Yacht Club elections are over and the results were announced at the October meet-

ing. Congratulations to all the new officers and board members. It will be great to have all of you on the

team.

October was a great month. The Pool and Dart Tournament at Poulsbo was great as always. I was the

biggest loser with the lowest score in both category, no surprise. Thought I’d put that right out there be-

cause I am sure someone else will bring it up. Bill won the dart contest which means we came home with

the coveted trophy.

I have heard wonderful reports on the Wine Tour. Judy Quick again did a fantastic job of organizing this

event. Thank you Judy.

The next social event is Whirly Ball. Bill Dils is doing all the coordination and planning. He’s done it before

and he does a fine job.

That’s all for this month. Bill (my Bill) is having his hip replaced on Tuesday. I am so glad there are still

spare parts available. He is a vintage model you know.

Have a great month.
