Commodore’s Report – Peggy Allen

We’ve scored an extra month of great boating weather! I hope everyone has been able to take advantage of it. September can be great weather but wouldn’t you agree that this September has been as warm as we would expect in August? It’s unfortunate that there were so many fires on the east side of the mountains and so much destruction. That is certainly one reason to appreciate the cooler weather of fall. when finished. We will have burgers and drinks then. Judy has her wine tour on Saturday 10/06/2012 so contact Judy about the event. December 08 2012 we will be going to Leavenworth by bus from the club. This event is for members and friends too. The bus trip is for us only, so you should know who is sitting next to you. We will be leaving at

Hello Club Members. We had a great time at the September dock Friday with about 35 members showing up. This month we do not have a dock Friday we have a Duck Friday. Duck Friday is 10/05/2012 and we will be take the Duck for a cruise around the city and the water too. Frank will be our tour guide as well. We will leave the club at 6:00 and return back to the club

I really love this time of year. There is something about the late September and October weather. The days are still warm, but there is that special fall smell that hints at the changes to come. This time of year is a great time at the club as well. We have elections, cruises, socials and the Commodore's Ball. Commodore's Ball As I mentioned last month, we are trying something different at this year's Ball. We have a new venue, an updated menu and live music for dancing. It will be a great party to celebrate our Commodore, Peggy Allen. Please see the flyer in this issue for more information and reserve your spot today. Commodore's Ball November 3 Queen City Yacht Club Dinner, Dancing, and fun all

for only $65 Please RSVP to Nancy Morton ASAP [email protected] Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help us pull this all together. We could use a bit more help so if you want to be a part of this extravaganza, please let us know by sending Nancy Morton ([email protected]) an email. Thank You My sincere thanks to everyone who came out to help with the fall work party. About 20 people enjoyed the good food and perfect weather. The crew took care of a lot of items that needed doing throughout the club. They tackled everything from replacing burned out bulbs (not as easy as it sounds) to weeding the beds

to painting the front stairs/walkway. After the hard work we all enjoyed lunch and conversation on the dock. This years crew included, Cindy Josephson, Bill & Peggy Allen, Paula Spina, Barbara Schwartz, Bill Traver, Pat Hansen, Patrick Kolanda, Michelle Cross, Sid & Irene Patten, Tim Dies, Bradley & Helen Bryd, Garry & Sharon Moore, Carol Cass, Kal Harris. I also want to thank Jerry Zitkovitch for his prep work on Friday. His was an especially ugly job to clean the bird droppings on the steps and garbage area. Finally thank you to Nancy Morton for all of her help and the hours she spent cooking all the food to fuel our volunteers. I apologize if I missed anyone, please drop me a note so I can make sure to thank you at the awards dinner.

2013 Bridge and Trustee Nominee Statements

Running for Commodore – Dave Morton It has been my pleasure serving as your Vice Commodore this past year. The past year has been both rewarding and difficult. I sincerely appreciate the support you've given me this year. As we look forward to next year, we are sure to face both challenges and opportunities. While I can't promise to always know the right answers, if elected, I do promise to do my best to support the members and ideals of the club. So with that I ask for your vote and support to be your 2013 Commodore. Thank you again for your continued support. Running for Vice Commodore – Mike (Mad Dog) Thompson Hello fellow members, I can't believe elections are here again. I have enjoyed being the on the bridge for the last 2 years even during the trying times we have been in. As your Vice Commodore I will continue to work with David to help improve the club in any way we can. I will help the new Rear Commodore with his roll in the club. If you find that I need to improve on something please let me know. Running for Rear Commodore – Bradley Byrd The most impressive thing to me about the Puget Sound Yacht Club is the wall of former Commodore’s portraits. The heritage of our Club members has been passed down for seven decades, and is a true inspiration. My goal in aspiring to the board is simple—sustain the Club for the next seven decades and more. I want us to be financially stable, have an enviable facility, and be secure for generations to come. Running for Fleet Captain – Joyce Carlson Hi everyone! I’m running for Fleet Captain! I had such a good time this year I thought I would ask to do it again. Overseeing the cruises this past year has hopefully brought you some fun. We cruised to some of our favorites and we cruised to a couple of spots we haven’t visited for some time. My thanks to all the “Captains” this year who made it all worthwhile! I have been in this Club since 1989 and I’m still having fun! Joyce Carlson, Past Commodore Running for Secretary – Laura Klein When Paul Devlin and I bought our boat 4 years ago I think we imagined years of semi-solitary boating with a few select friends. But after meeting Jerry & Coleen Zitkovich on the Duwamish dock during our “Educational Course on Old Stinky Boat Repair” (aka: 9 month dry dock refit) and joining PSYC, the reality has been much different. We enjoy this crazy, eclectic, non-pretentious group and I’m committed to being an accurate and competent Secretary for PSYC. I’m a high school counselor and a bit of an organizational freak, which will work well for this position. I am also proud of the hard work and decisions this club has to make while maintaining respect and compassion for each other. Thank you for your consideration. Running for Trustee – Bob Josephson Cindy & I have been active members of PSYC since 2005 and are pretty passionate about boating! We have enjoyed the many cruises, activities and the friendships we have made. As Trustee, I will

offer dependability, a willingness to listen to ideas and respect for each member. I previously served for one year (2009) as Trustee when another member could not fulfill their term. I enjoyed my involvement at that time and I would be honored to represent you in helping manage the club again. I am a civil engineer for Jacobs Engineering, and previously spent 30 years with the Department of Transportation. Running for Trustee – Garry Moore Sharon and I have been boating in the northwest since 1973. We have been living aboard our current boat, a 53’ Carver, in south Lake Union for the last 6 years. We have been members of PSYC since 2008. I have previously served as a trustee from 2010 to 2011. I am currently on the Facilities Planning Committee helping to put together a Facilities Survey using an outside consultant. The Survey will be used by the Long Range Planning Committee to establish long-term goals for the development of the Clubhouse and dock. Sharon and I were named Boating Family of the Year in 2010. I would like to again serve on the Board as a Trustee to help move the Club forward in meeting the challenges we face in the future. Running for Trustee – Tim Dies My wife and I joined PSYC in 2007 after the purchase of our 1964 Chris Craft, "High Seas" looking for a boating club and hoping to find other people that aspire to cruise long distances as we do. What we have found is a boating family that inspires us to fix up and use our boat all year round. We as a club have had great cruises and camaraderie in the past but we now need focus within the club to forge through the challenges that lie ahead. Keeping our club prosperous and financially stable for the future of our membership is what I want to continue to work towards. As a trustee for the past two years my eyes have been opened to the complexity that makes this yacht club very unique in aspects that I did not fathom before. We as a boating family have come up against some tough years with the economy but have stayed strong with friendships and cruising together as a reminder of why we belong to such a great organization. I ask again for your vote as trustee of this club to continue the great work that we have in progress at this time. Our future depends on a strong base and I hope that you will continue to trust me in this position.
